MERCUTIO MORTE

Morte Dragon | Breeding his way through the whole lair
light_2.png 7842.png 19450.png

A Morte dragon is a phenotype, not restricted to any breed. They are distinguished by their color: blacks and black-violets, lighter colors permitted but only if the overall impression of a shadowy-colored dragon is preserved. Not all dragons of this phenotype are Mortes, but all Mortes are dragons of this phenotype. Lineage is unimportant - a dragon is still considered a Morte if they come from two dragons who are not Mortes. Their eye color is Light, Wind or Fire.

Aside from their color, they are notable for their knack for magic. This does not necessarily mean they are themselves powerful casters; even a Morte with little power of their own has an instinct for arcana, and can manipulate or assist with another caster's spellwork. This knack is not restricted to magic of their own elemental affiliation, though they can only use their own element to cast spells by themselves. They are valuable as wizard's assistants, even if they are not powerful casters in their own right.

Their personality tends towards mischief. They don't intend harm by it, their sense of humor tending towards absurdist silliness moreso than malice. They are clever with their hands, and have an air of dignity like a cat. They are charismatic and gregarious, but tend to form strong opinions about others. Their loyalty is fierce, once earned. Their animosity is expressed, usually, by largely ignoring the object of their disdain.

There are unverified reports of Morte dragons having other inherent abilities. They are considered lucky by some, but this is understandably hard to measure. Still, it is rumored that if you keep your Morte dragon well-fed, your lair will always have good fortune. It is also rumored that the first Morte was bred by Death itself, as an assistant in ferrying the dead to their rest.

Mercutio Morte is a dragon with low magic reserves for himself, but a great gift for manipulation of other dragons' magic. He is a quintessential representation of the phenotype, charismatic and popular with the ladies. Has a fair measure of experience getting out of unpleasant situations, which is a good thing, as his life choices are often puzzlingly poor. His twin sister, Martine, is very dear to him, but you will find them often pretending to ignore each other in day to day life. It's hard, says Martine, to build an identity in the shadow of your twin.

He is seldom found without Moggie, the little mute orange kitty-fae he found on one of his adventures. She was abandoned as a hatchling for not being able to make sounds, Mercutio thinks. She's found a home here with him, now, and neither of them would trade it for the world.
