Biography
Leda - Alchemist
|
History Leda never had what most would call a "conventional" childhood. Instead of bouncing on the glowing mushrooms with the other hatchlings, she dissected them, trying to find the secret to their bioluminescence. Rather than chase butterflies with her siblings, she chose to drop dangerous substances on beetles. Her clan didn't know what to do with this strange skydancer, so they tried to find someone else to take her in. Most of the neighboring clans didn't want someone like her in their ranks, so the search went on. Eventually, they found a lone dragon in the Foxfire Bramble who agreed to watch over the girl. Leda's new caregiver gave her no name. Instead, she instructed the child to call her Master. Master, as it turns out, was an accomplished alchemist. She began to train her pupil in the ways of alchemy. Leda was a natural. She learned how to break something down and reconstruct it anew, how to use her concoctions to affect animals, other dragons, and even herself. Eventually she was allowed to break away from Master's instruction and began to implement her own ideas. When Master had taught the girl all she could, she sent her on her way with a parting gift: a pair of goggles, formed to Master's own specifications, which would allow her to see even in the pitch darkness of the Foxfire Bramble, or the blinding glare of the Beacon of the Radiant Eye. They remain her most prized possession. Leda traveled through the Tangled Wood for a time, moving from clan to clan. In each, she would set up her cauldron and brew some concoction. And in each, she would slip some of her brew into a dragon's dinner. When each clan found out, they chased her away, despite her objections that the affects would wear off, or that it was only for the sake of science. None of them cared. She moved so often that she eventually tired of it, and set up a small lair near the Obscured Crescent. It was there that the Wanderers found her. They came across as she was gathering ingredients, and they were looking for a place to camp for the night. Among them she spotted what might have been the perfect test subject for her new brew, and so she invited them to her lair. When she slipped the brightly-colored spiral a sample of her potion, it made her fall asleep so quickly that the rest of her clan began to suspect something. They asked Leda, again and again, until she grew tired of the interrogation and told them, expecting them to be revolted and leave, giving her peace. However, some among their number were actually impressed, and they asked her to join them. Leda now travels with the Wanderers, continuing her own research and occasionally doing tasks her clan requires of her. They don't even mind when she uses them as test subjects. Personality Leda appears at first to be sly, manipulative, and slightly dangerous. This however, is incorrect; she's more than slightly dangerous. She's one of the best alchemists in Sornieth, and she lets it go to her head. In addition to her arrogance, many dragons notice that she is very tidy. In fact, she is so tidy that every tool, material, and potion has its place, and she has been known to slip poisons to those who mess with her system. |
