Yatra

Though she loves the sea, she's never quite fit. She loves the forests and meadows near the clan home, and often spends hours flying about. The Luna mith that is her familiar found her and hasn't left her since. The others in the clan have begun training her in various skills, hoping she'll fine one to excel in. Given her love of flying she's started to train more as a messenger. They all feel she'll leave them someday, and hope a good trade will pave the way for her.

Then one day she found an item that changed her outlook. She had expected to simply spend another evening roaming through one of the beaches that encircled the clan Shallow House. But within minutes of emerging from the waves she noticed a glimmer among the dunes. Padding over, tundra hair brushing her tracks away behind her, she moved to dig it out.

The bit of shiny was a lapis tail ring. But unlike others she had seen, Yatra noticed this one was covered in strange looking runes. She'd never seen the like, not that she was any kind of a scholar. It was lovely though, and she didn't have the training to identify any danger. So she scooped it up, brushed it off, and slid it over her tail.

Heat tingled through her, leaving her warmed and somehow more content than she'd been for a long time. She decided to leave early, head back to the clan that now felt much more like home than it ever had. It wasn't until she saw a wavery reflection in a tidal pool that she noticed the change.

She had become a fae.

And somehow, along with the body change, she suddenly felt freer, more truly herself. She'd never considered the possibility. She'd heard of such a thing of course, everyone had. But she'd known no one who had changed their body like that, and had never thought she could. Now she realized that this was who she was, had been all along. She had just needed the chance.

She slid back into the waves, heading for her home. It felt better, knowing that the feeling of not fitting had been within her own skin, and not with a problem with her clan fit. She could stay home with her family after all.
