_____The metallic clink of his boots echoed through the hall. Each step disturbed the stillness with a ripple of echoes. His steps were light, and the sound soft, but compared to nothing it was deafening. The priests hissed silently at him. They always hissed at him. Their small black teeth were bared but they never did anything, they never would.
_____He enjoyed coming to the chamber not for the hospitality, but the stillness. It was as if time stopped in there. Even the deepest caves did not achieve that perfect aura, there was always something happening. The stone breathed and creaked and he could feel it -- but not here. There was only peace here.
_____He looked at the largest of the priests. She stood still before two doors that reached for the ceiling, her wings draped by her sides. When he made to move toward the doors her spines lifted slightly, several more steps and they were upright in warning. Yet her face showed no threat. Her eyes were pupilless, though he had the odd feeling that they were on him.
