Nature has a way of ignoring the cliches of foreshadowing. Nicolai was not brought to the clan on a dark or stormy night. He was not found dripping wet in the rain, covered in mud or the fail protection of his parents. He was not caught as a hatchling stealing from the leaders of the clan. Rather, he was a sweet child, cared for by his old clan, but too great a burden to remain with them. He was first adopted by Tehb, who found a whimsical resemblance in the boy to their new queen.

Yet as he grew- his talents became more clear. Something dark lingered just on the edges of his smiles, and his ferocity was uncharacteristic of anything the clan had yet seen before. Though there were no storms, nor lighting nor thunder to give him away- it wasn't long before most knew he was shade-touched. Yet for this eclectic clan- it was no cause for banishment. Rather, he was trained, taught, and tutored to turn his abilities into something great. The Queen's Guard. A lofty title, and a lofty place indeed. For now, Nicolai seems contented with the position- but there are those who worry about what sorts of dark magic he may be able to conjure.
