"There is no glory in suffering....tis better and more natural to allow those who are in pain, to die" Healer | Mute | Reclusive How to cry for help when there is no voice to be heard? How to run from danger when your body is ill and weak? Uncertainty and despair reigned as the storm caught Corax. Wind tore at her limbs in a vicious play, the sky a beast that stole her voice and robbed the heat from all escaped breath. She fought, but it toyed with her, shattering her flank against a boulder. Flying in gathering gales was her error, for she lacked the strength to face the tempest. Yet why had she flown? Disoriented, weak and lost, she surrendered to the assault, her senses fading as she crashed down. The following hours were blurred, but the memory was there, fleshed out from retellings of Calaun’s ‘great deed’. As usual, this herbalist stole through the woods to gather. He initially dismissed the tugging in his temples as a headache, but its strength seemed oddly direction-bound. Curiosity led him to a trail of broken trees, bloodied foliage and cloth scraps on churned earth. As he neared her large, limp and mutilated body, she spoke to him with her mind, startling him with a clear and quiet voice. Her mental pull was firm up close, but he froze in front of her until she forced her eyes open, crying out in his head: HELP ME. A terrified Calaun allerted the clan leaders. Their combined efforts brought her to the nascent City in the Trees, where she healed from her wounds. However, her voice never returned. Although she refused to speak about the accident and cure her mind, her ability for telepathy fascinated everyone. Corax's recovery lasted only a few days. Even though she was young, she had previously accumulated an incredible proficiency in medicinal herbs and healing magic. Not only did she oversee the work of her attending healer, but she also corrected his work and took over duties when cured. She has lived in the up-and-coming metropolis ever since. The eccentric hermit rarely flies and hides much of her body with her garb. Her remaining impairments are of untold origins, caused long before her windbound accident. They have convinced her that those terminally ill or in agony should be granted their wish to pass on rather than heal as a crippled soul. |
