Clip was born and raised in the Starfall Isles--and that's about all there is to say about his banal childhood. He wasn't the most brilliant in his family, but between his genetic smarts and natural charisma, Clip managed to get into an astrological understudy program soon after he matured. His parents were elated, and so was he until he arrived. He took no interest in studying the stars, to the horror of his mentor. Over time, Clip's interest with sociology, philosophy, and anything "living, breathing, and not stuck up in the sky" turned into a snarky disrespect for his astrological life and he tactfully resigned, making sure to stuff the termination papers in his pocket on the way out.

After resigning from the program Clip traveled across the mainland to the Sunbeam Ruins in order to study philosophy alongside members of the Light Flight. Though their material was more pertinent to his interest, most students didn't receive his humor well. Beyond that, their dependence on older texts was also frustrating. He left quickly.

And then he met Paarthunax and Satsuki. The guardian simply took a look at him as they passed and suggested he join them. For the first time in his life, he was stuck without a word to say and simply followed. Eventually, he got to know the two better. In Paarthunax, Clip found a good friend and the subject of his first thesis: "The Compulsory Nature of The Search: Innate Calling or Cultural Expectation, an Anecdotal Research Study;" with Satsuki, Clip found a defender of his ideas, friend, and eventual mate.

Within the clan Clip puts on a few hats. Early on he took care of hatchlings, acted as Satsuki's interpreter, researched Paarthunax's "Search amnesia," and was an introductory agent when Paarthunax decided to pull in another random dragon to the clan. As their clan starts to grow, he finds himself leading operational tasks and splits between the deep sea and shore. His research to help Paarthunax has been pushed back, but he makes up for it by learning from the dynamics of the family forming all around him.
