Biography
Gale's Thoughts: Jupiter
As Furie and Glitch's oldest daughter, one half of a pair of fraternal twins, Jupiter is one of the first dragons who was born in the clan and decided to build her life here. Similarly to her older brother Flicker, she holds a very specific, cornerstone role in the clan that it would be strange to see anyone else fill.
Jupiter is the leader of the clan's hunters and foragers, barely seen over the course of the day by anyone who is not also a hunter or forager. She has her small, dedicated band, and pretty much everyone else in the clan is just a mouth she makes sure to bring back enough food for (the exceptions being her biological family; she usually makes the effort to visit Flicker if she can, and even though she's not nearly as close with her parents and the Seven as her brother is, her visits to see them are also not uncommon). She makes two trips home every day, at sunrise and sunset, catching up on no more than four hours of sleep during the day after she gets home at sunrise, and checking in with the dragons she cares enough to before she leaves for her nightly sojourn through the clan's territory.
Needless to say, if one doesn't catch her during one of the two twilight hours, they'll miss her entirely. I asked Flicker once why she feels the need to run herself so ragged, and he only shrugged and told me she doesn't know what to do with herself if she's not doing her job.
"It makes her happy, and since it's one of the only things that does, I don't dare get on her about it. Staying still is not an option for my sister; honestly, I think she'd be almost better off in a nomadic clan some days."
I know she misses her twin Kieran (who, ironically, lives in our brother clan now) fiercely; I can't imagine what it's like to be apart from someone you spent almost every waking minute for almost your entire life with. I'm certain if Chiaroscuro's other set of twins were separated, there would be no rest for anyone nearby until they were reunited. I know Kieran is happy, and Jupiter knows that too (they write each other all the time, and he's clearly doing well for himself if his words are any indication), which is probably the only reason she's okay with him having left. She knows her place is here, but even though it's been quite a few decades now, I think sometimes she wonders if there's anything she could have done to make certain he'd had what he was looking for here as well.
Chiaroscuro's head huntress may keep herself busy, may be one of the most quintessential pieces in daily clan life, and may be happy with her life choices, but there's a part of me that will always hope that someday she'll slow down and find other things to enjoy.
