"The strongest dragon in the Assembly, with an even stronger voice. Though he once was a small, meek Lightning dragon, he grew to train dragons to go forth and serve the Icewarden, barking commands and expanding their physical strengths. He is tall, brooding, and he has evolved past his once shy and small demeanor. His gaze is piercing. This Imp is at the forefront of every battle, and he'll nobly train designates until his final days, for he sees that is almost as great of an honor as being exalted."
b a c k s t o r y It seems hard to believe that this large, muscular, fearless Imperial was once a tiny, easily frightened and very anxious hatchling, and even young adult. He grew up in a clan located in the Expanse, and was a child of lightning. Born from a Spiral father and an Imperial mother, he had a pretty basic childhood, save for being overly sensitive. Then, came the day his father was exalted. The clan sent him off to fight in the battle for Dominance, directly under the Stormcatcher. His mother explained that it was an honor to be sent to fight for your flight, under your deity. It was an honor to be exalted. She, herself, had always believed that, until this day, when her loving mate was sent off. But she dare not tell her son. Since then, little Korrei had a purpose. He wanted to grow, and get tougher, and one day, find a deity to be exalted to. He wanted to fight and be useful, as he was sick an tired of being small and always so afraid. He snuck out each day, without telling his over-protective mother, to battle the Beastclans and toughen himself up. Being by himself, it took a long time, as he was always beaten down quite easily. He tried his best, but often times, it wasn't enough. He always made slow progress, but as he started to mature into an adult, the results could be seen. He grew larger, stronger, more agile. He stayed quiet, but not with anxiety and fear, like before. With stoic purpose. With silent pride. With vigilant duty. He had begun to rise above the Beastclans in battle, and he felt himself metamorphosing into what he had only dreamed of becoming. By the time he had reached adulthood, everyone had wondered what had happened, as he was suddenly the strongest dragon in the clan. The day came that his mother pulled him aside. Her son, now a broad shouldered and very able bodied Imperial, stood before her, and she sighed. She knew about his fights with the Beastclans since he was a young one, but never said anything. It was hard to hide the bruises and bumps, and the look of disappointment on his face when he came home beaten down. But she never said anything. She knew what was going on, but couldn't break his spirit. So, now, she asked him. "My son, all of those years spent throwing yourself at your enemies. Why did you do it? Why did you put yourself in danger?" The dark Imp looked his mother, their cyan eyes meeting in a new light of respect. He said, his voice now loud and deep, "Ever since I saw the day father was exalted, and you told me that it was an honor, I dreamed of leaving my old, timid ways and becoming useful. Now I have achieved that goal, and I wish to serve a deity." His mother's eyes welled up with tears. At first, Korrei thought she was crying in happiness, because she was proud, but it became apparent that sorrow had plagued her, and the young boy knew not why. "Mother, what's wrong? Why are you upset?" He gave a worried glance, not knowing what to do. Then, he realized. She missed him. All this time, she missed her mate. And all this while, her son wanted the same fate. It felt as though everything Korrei had trained and worked up for was a lie. His mother didn't want to see her son march off into battle, to possibly be killed. She had no way of knowing if her mate was still alive. She looked to him with her glossy glowing eyes and said, "You can find other ways to be useful, Korrei. You don't have to condemn yourself to anybody. To any fate. There could be someone over here who needs you more than any deity does. And you don't know that until you look." The next morning, she was gone. She followed her mate under the Stormcatcher's wing. Korrei thought she was being a hypocrite. Then, he found himself realizing that what she said about someone needing him over here had been true for her. That she had stayed with the clan only take care of him, her son, and to raise him, instead of chasing her mate like Korrei had now realized she had longed to do. And when the bold Imp had displayed his newfound maturity, she knew she was no longer needed here. He, himself, left. Searching for purpose. And, so, he found himself flying south, into the land of snow. It was there he found Aethr; a young spiral with an intent so strong to start a life here, they took one look at eachother, and knew that joining forces was a privilege for both parties. They knew their meeting was planned out by the stars. Or, so Aethr had said. It was then Korrei learned how to be useful to his new deity, the Icewarden, without serving directly under him. He trained those chosen to join him in the fight for dominance, and sent them off to live out their lives beside the mighty dragon. Just like he had once wanted to do. Except... He knew this was his place. His purpose. And he was determined to fulfill it until his death. |
