He came to the clan lost and alone. As a young drake he lost the item most important to him, and with it, his purpose. While wandering and losing his grip on life, he found himself lost in the plaguelands. Azelea met the now juvenile dragon. Their meeting was, at first an aggressive one, but Azelea easily subdued the young dragon. Though Gaunt was seeking his own destruction, believing the plaguelands and dragons therein to be violent and deadly, Azelea instead brought the dragon into his clan. Guardians are known for their size and strength, and Azelea could see a useful future for a dragon of such, especially one who'd lost it's "obsession" (as he called the Guardian's tendency to find lifelong purpose in defending a random creature or object around them). Azelea had many talks with the young guardian, and eventually made an deep impression on him. Despite having little training as a youth and being a bit clumsy, Guant makes an incredible effort to protect Azelea and the clan.

g g g g Loylar, a dragon living in the clan for some time before Guant, was at first very aloof and distant from him. Her attitude, for a guardian, was completely foreign to him. For a long time he was a bit afraid and intimidated by her; staying far away and reluctant to ever speak to her. Although born of the lightning flight, she had a mentality much like that of the more self sufficient and selfish plague dragons. However different their personalities might have at first seemed, the two dragons eventually bonded. Perhaps Loylar found Guant's traditionalist attitudes and knowledge of guardian culture fascinating, as she was completely severed from it at a young age.
