ALCHAI
the moribund traveller

Plague dragons are usually born with an immune system so advanced that they can withstand many of the infectious and deadly diseases that fester in their virulent home. Alchai was not so lucky, as he was born susceptible to a number of the viruses there that would normally only affect dragons of foreign clans. What looks like maroon gembond clinging to his scales is actually a form of malevolent parasite that he acquired days after his hatchday, one that sucks at his body's resources and considerably shortens his lifespan. He and his family decided it was best if, once he grew old enough, he would leave the plague-ridden landscape and lived a healthier life elsewhere. Alchai agreed, and as an adult has chosen a clanless lifestyle. For now he travels about, hoping to see and explore as much of the world as he can with his numbered days.

That being said, he still has close ties with the Tycho's Peak Clan in the fuchsia Arcane landscape. Vesuvius, a Skydancer scout, rescued a wounded Alchai when he was spotted during a patrol, and Alchai became an official Clan member during his recovery. He always returns to the Clan periodically to spend time with its members and share tales of lands far away.

Alchai is smooth and easygoing; he has accepted his fate and is determined to live his life to the fullest. He never takes anything too seriously, and handles problems in a relaxed manner even if he is unsure of himself. Because of this, he quickly becomes popular with those he meets. Fairly sexually flamboyant, Alchai is not picky and favors all genders. His children, who belong to a number of different clans, know who their father is, and he always bears gifts and love when he returns to visit them. His familiar is a Smoke Gyre he named Gren, who inexplicably began to follow him after a brief stay in the Scorched Forest. Though mostly silent, Alchai values the bird's companionship when he travels for days without seeing another dragon.

Because of his travels, Alchai doesn't have a specific role in the Clan. He performs anything asked of him when he visits, because he feels he owes them his life an genuinely loves his fellow members. He is especially close to Vesuvius, who has opened up to him, and Alchai may even harbor feelings for the other Skydancer. The Tycho's Peak Clan is aware of his illness and the reason he travels, so he makes sure to stick to a schedule and plan his visits. Should he ever fail to arrive, they will know that either his illness or fragility have finally claimed his life.
