Bayleef
Child of the Forest Guardians
Born with Honor

My purpose is clear

Chikorita and Bayleef were born as brothers in a clutch of three. They are the twin sons of the clan's forest guardians, and were expected to grow and follow in their parents' footsteps. It's an honored position, one that requires a firm upbringing and a lifetime of training to achieve, and it's something that the brothers have felt very strongly about ever since their childhood. This was their destiny, and they were raised with this fate in mind.

Though he and his brother and near twins, Bayleef's personality is truly a stark contrast. While his brother Chikorita was always adventurous and headstrong as a hatchling, Bayleef was more reserved. He lingered in the nest a little too long, and has gone through life in a more dignified but submissive manner than his brother. Bayleef is a scholar at heart, far more interested in the intellectual and spiritual components of their birthright than any leadership duties, and he'd certainly not a warrior. He prefers to spend his days reading scrolls and studying their craft. He takes their birthright as forest guardians very seriously, and while Chikorita enjoys courting the attention that comes from the position, Bayleef prefers to keep his studies private.

In spite of their difference in philosophy, the two are inseparable. The clever and analytic Bayleef is always prepared to be the brains for his brash brother, and Chikorita will always come to Bayleef's aid if he finds himself in a situation where cleverness alone is not enough. Bayleef looks to Chikorita for inspiration and social confidence, while Chikorita looks right back at him with equal admiration. Bayleef is by far the smarter, by far the more skilled in their arts, and at his heart, probably the more confident. While Bayleef can be socially awkward and ill-adjusted, he is the more talented as a forest guardian, and the more assured in their destiny. He lives for their shared purpose, and he will allow nothing to distract him.

His lack of interest in common social matters has led to plenty of humorous situations. He is more brightly colored than Chikorita, and being a coatl, that makes him the more attractive of the two. Being the mysterious, inaccessible, and yet handsome brother has led to a fair number of suitors trying to slither their way into his heart, which almost invariably makes him anxious and awkward. Chikorita finds this hilarious, but is a little bit envious as well, even though he doesn't lack in popularity himself.

Bayleef has no time for suitors, not when his attention is focused so completely on his task. Being a forest guardian is his entire life, the very center of his being. For that reason, he is also largely unconcerned with their sister Serperior. Her greater raw talent doesn't concern him. He underestimates her in a way, since he is utterly confident that the sum of the parts is greater than one single talent alone. He is smarter than her, and their brother is a fine leader; together, they are superior as guardians. That is what he believes, and thus far, nothing has swayed him.
