The Deep Walkers - ceaseless migrants of the dark maze underpinning the world. Only dragons whose coats glint like gemstones may ever join the group, for in the deepest chasms without light there are not plants or animals to sustain soft flesh. Instead gemstones and rare minerals pried from the walls sustain them, and are replenished, somehow, when their back is turned.

It is rumored that Memetite gained leadership by walking from dragonhome to the shifting expanse without ever surfacing. So far in her still young tenure as pathfinder of the Deep Walkers she has stuck with the old laws. There is no home for them in the dark and the deep, only pathways for their wanderings. None can own anything that they cannot carry with them. Every hot summer solstice the clan will surface at the Pillar of the World. No Deep Walker will mate with a dragon whose colours are far from their own.

But their's is an old, crumbling clan. Where once they were many, now they are few, with brothers and sisters leaving them to live their lives in the sunshine. It is a question of what is failing them - the old laws, or Memetite?
