Slate is a chemist, and particularly interested in the chemistry of minerals and ore. Especially the flammable ones. He tends to spend most of his time alone, due more to safety than anything else, as he is almost constantly surrounded by volatile dust particles. After all, he can't maintain flame retardant spells on the whole clan.

Spontaneous as both he and his explosions are, Slate is friendly fellow. He doesn't much like that his work means he must stay separate from the rest of the clan, but he doesn't want to abandon his research anymore than he wants to hurt someone, so he persists. Luckily, Thistle the alchemist has a similar issue regarding explosions, so they have become close friends and often work together. When not experimenting, Slate greatly enjoys sharing stories and food with others, and many hatchlings consider him the "weird uncle" of the kingdom.
