Massasauga

Massasauga is a quiet nocturne who would rather stay inside the depths of her hidden burrow during the day, and only step foot outside once the sun has fallen into its nightly slumber. When she does this, she shakes the dew from her wings and takes off into the night fallen sky, reaching great heights and watching the stars on her back, then plummeting down backwards and catching herself just before she plummets into the water, mere centimeters away from the surface of the illuminated pool, and again in it she sees the wonderful night sky. However, she only does this when she is for certain that nobody is looking, and though is incredibly graceful and skilled, she becomes clumsy and tense when she feels like she is being watched by others. For once, another dragon was able to witness this ceremony of hers, and when she caught eyes with him, she fell directly into the lake.

She doesn’t understand how to deal with interpersonal relationships and has a bad habit of shrugging off people who are trying to help her because she is afraid to become emotionally attached to anyone. A small part of her yearns for companionship, but she’s pushed it aside by watching others from afar and in confiding in a familiar who she found to be a very useful companion. Her Blue Dragon Reef snail is small enough for her to hide away and take on flights with her and has an incredible affinity when it comes to cheering her up when she is upset. She can’t help but start to feel better when it wiggles it’s antenna at her, and even in the most troublesome of times, she’ll find herself able to take joy in it, which means a lot to her, as she can’t always find much happiness in the world.

When she was a child in her old clan, she was forced to fight another dragon as a rite of passage between childhood and adulthood. She was selected to take on a male nocturne that was much stronger than she was. Both were fitted into ceremonial armor before the hour that was that they would fight. She waited nervously for the battle to begin, and by the time it had, she looked up to see him springing right at her and inflicting a hard blow, though the armor did well to protect her. Mustering up all of her courage, she faced the more tough dragon, and in a fury of claws and teeth, the armor of his chest plate flew off and hit the ground. She had the chance over him then to plummet her teeth into him, to claim victory and complete her rite. But she did not. Rather, she took off into the skies, unable to finish the battle, showing mercy and compassion for the nearly defeated nocturne.
