Danai originates from the druidic bestiary of seasonal nature spirits. Danai, a winter woodsfolk, is most active around December, when the holiday of Christmas is in full swing. Perhaps because of his deep-seeded winter magic or because of the acceptance of his bodily habits, he has taken to acting as a Christmas messenger and deliverer.

Among the druids, Danai is seen as a spirit who will leave one of three things on your windowsill on Christmas Eve - a branch of holly for good luck, a branch of mistletoe for fertility, or a branch of ash wood for misfortune. Really, Danai leaves these things on peoples' windowsills because he lacks the capability of toy making and such trees are abundant in the grove where he lives.

Danai is lethargic when it's not winter, and his mate, Saturnalia, scolds him for it. However, he deeply cares for her, and manages to overcome his lack of toy-making abilities and create a truly beautiful gift for her, leaving his clanmates to wonder whether he's just slacking off on their gifts.

Danai has a sense of humor though, and his rivals/friends often receive super large branches of ash. One time, he gave Zhongguo, Suijing, and Biewan ash trees for Christmas. Zhongguo gave it away, Suijing used the tree for firewood, and Biewan returned his to Danai.
