When Amarayne still lived in the airship lair in the Twisting Crescendo, a homeless fae who set up shelter in the nooks and crannies of other lairs before moving on without a trace took up residence inside the vents. He planned to stay no longer than usual, but happened to be in earshot of an especially rousing and inspiring speech of the clan's leader, telling her dragons that all those in the sound of her voice were family and that as a family they ought to take care of one another. The clan was celebrating an anniversary, and the fae had never felt included in anything like that, though he was aware that he was an unintended listener. He decided to stick around, sneaking around the clan and returning misplaced items, making small repairs, or alerting dragons to trouble they were not aware of.

This life of sneaking and skulking around made him a feared and hated specter throughout the clan, though some denied his existence and others recognized the help the strange entity was providing. Still, no one could prove his existence for the longest time, and that suited Casper just fine. He enjoyed watching his unwitting clanmates go about their lives, reacting to his small acts or just doing everyday things. He was far too fearful to openly join them, and life in the shadows suited him just fine. He neither needed nor wanted the attention, though he did envy the companionship his fellows got to have with each other. Despite this he was more than happy to stay hidden forever and would have done just that had the lair not been besieged.

Shade creatures poured in and he heard the screams and cries of his clan, taken by surprise. There was little he could do, so he followed the escaping dragons as best he could to see if he could somehow aid them from the storage hold they ducked into. His chance came when a scientist needed her supplies if she were to have any hope of saving some critically wounded clanmates. Casper crept into the vault, arriving faster than the envoy Ayuna sent, and was reaching for the items when both enemy and clan burst through the door. He lost his grip and fell into a box of scrolls, unintentionally activating one of them. There was a bit of a stir when out of seemingly nowhere a giant ridgeback burst into being, and in the confusion the shade beasts were quickly subdued. Having now permanently shattered his secretive existence, Casper did the only thing he could think of and timidly gave the party exactly what they'd come for.

They couldn't address the issue of his presence under the circumstances, and had they had some more time would certainly have dealt with it immediately, but they were running out of time and he seemed genuinely concerned with helping them. With his new larger size he helped them drive off the attackers, and after all the chaos and explaining his story to them was gifted his own quarters as thanks for saving the lives of many dragons and driving off the invaders. He would have liked to go back to the vents, but as a huge ridgeback now he had to settle for normal quarters like everyone else. He does enjoy a lot more appreciation now that he lives openly, and finds that even those who hated him as the spooky specter adore their giant spiny hero.

Casper is a quiet, reclusive dragon, saying so little some thought he was mute for a while. He is very shy, and will usually blend into a crowd but not engage them, preferring to blend in and just soak in the feeling of belonging. He does enjoy the odd conversation, though those who speak to him may want to be the type who like to hear their own voices a lot, as he won't add much himself. He is an excellent listener, however, and if he overhears a problem he will quietly do what he can to resolve it.

His big, lumbering body is still something he's getting used to, but he doesn't complain about it. He seems comfortable in this new form, at any rate, and has made no desire to change back or into something else known. He allows hatchlings to climb all over him, and is a diligent babysitter. He often works with the hatchling minders, giving parents a break when they need to attend to their jobs or have some personal time. His gentle giant personality is popular among his clan, hatchlings, and admirers, of which he gets several.

Though he does enjoy helping others, he is not very comfortable accepting charity himself. It's hard to get him to accept a gift, and even harder to attempt to coax his needs or desires out of him. He takes care of himself, and doesn't want to trouble others. He just likes taking care of his friends and even strangers, and doesn't need thanks or reimbursement no matter what his kindness cost him.
