Shard - Medic

History

Shard lived peacefully on the Zephyr Steppes for most of his life. That is, until a dragon fell out of the sky and landed on his lair.

He had always been a quiet child, and more interested in learning than flying with the other hatchlings. And the more he learned, he became convinced that he wanted to study medicine. He read all the books he could find on healing, and he left his clan to become a loner, nurturing his career, and waiting for the day he could go to the Sunbeam Ruins to learn more.

And so he came to set up a small lair on the steppes, and that was where his peaceful life changed forever. He had been lounging with a book on common flight injuries when he heard a commotion outside.

Leaving his lair, he found a group of fellow wind dragons flying erratically above him, trying to slow something in the air. Whatever it was fell rapidly, and landed right on his lair. The other wind dragons landed, and began yelling for a doctor.

Shard was still stunned from the incident, but he approached them. "What in the name of Windsinger-" And then he saw what had fallen. A little spiral was there, wings, legs, and tail bent at awkward angles. Her left side was covered in what appeared to be electrical burns, and her ice-colored scales were blackened with soot.

Shard turned to one of the wind dragons; a nocturne with green scales. "Take this," he shoved a bucket at him, "And fetch some hot water." He turned to another nocturne with a brown hide. "Over in that chest is a box with tools. Grab it." And to the orange wildclaw he said, "If she wakes up, hold her down." And then he set to work.

He watched over the spiral after he set all of her bones and bandaged her burns and cuts. When she finally woke up, it took every bit of his bedside manner to explain what had happened, and he managed to get her story and name. Blizzard had been flying by the Tempest Spire when the wind took her off course and she collided with it. She must have been carried to the Steppes by the storm.

She wanted to leave immediately, and it took him two days, fifteen threats, and three hours of begging to convince her not to. Eventually, he removed the casts and splints, took off her bandages, and began teaching her how to fly again. During those long days, they got to know each other, and became friends. He told her of his dream to visit the Sunbeam Ruins, and Blizzard told him that they would go.

So when she was completely healed, they set off, and he enrolled in a school of medicine at the hearth of all knowledge.

The Wanderers came across them when Shard had just finished his schooling. After a full day of Blizzard begging him to join with her, he gave in. Now he acts as the clan's medic, patching everyone up after any rough business deals. Needless to say, he always has something to do.

He and Blizzard both want children, but they couldn't think of anyone to have them with, so they have an agreement. They have clutches of eggs but never become anything more than friends. It works well for them both.

Personality

Shard is one of those dragons that deserves a break, but never gets one. Between watching over Blizzard and the rest of the clan, he never has any free time! This can make him irritable, but he grudgingly loves the lot of them, even if all he wants to do is shove a noggle in their nests. He's very good in a crisis, remaining calm even when everyone else is screaming at the walls. However, if someone pushes him at the wrong time, he's likely to explode. Blizzard always jokes that he's going to hurt someone one of these days and she'd have to deal with his guilt.
