Lumine is an ancient statue that was brought to life by Lightweaver to endure and last through the years, with her own desires and freedom, but with a deep purpose to protect the essence of Light (text, artifacts, stories, magic) well beyond the life-time of a dragon. She used to be part of a group of dragons located in the Hewn City that attempted to find the mysteries buried inside of the shade-touched city; her clan was her life and blood and she taught all the new hatchlings of Lightweaver's teachings, and various other areas, such as history and mathematics. She was sworn to protect and raise all the children born under Lightweaver, holding everyone to her breast like they were her own children, might they be an adult or a hatchling. Her trust was broken within the circle of her very own clan. A plot buried deep within to steal the thousands of historical records and artifacts that her clan had been keeping safe for many generations, to sell off on the black market. She tried to fend off the thieves with her magic, but she was ambushed -- to be killed, but one of the attackers spared her due to them being one of the students she had raised from a hatchling -- only to have another spit acid in her face, leaving her writhing, screeching, and blind. She hissed out curses at her attackers, and they fled with a large amount of prized history from the sunlit lands. She began to learn to use her magic to see the world around her, though the loss of her sight sent her into shock for a few days. The healers of her old clan attempted to heal her wounds to the best of their ability but her face, unfortunately, remained scarred from the damage of the acid -- though now she has come to accept it. Lumine eventually left the clan once she left confident enough in her own abilities, a deep desire of vengeance buried inside of her. She began to try tracking down the dragons who had taken the prized treasure from her clan, tracing them through the Tangled Woods, to the Scarred Wasteland. Perfect place to hide and deter dragons from looking. Although magic was her friend and it helped guide her through the ruined lands, she was fearful of the mutated and ravenous dragons that lurked about. She could send dragons scurrying away with her powerful magic, but there were limits to her powers, and with the low supply of food, she was growing weak. She was eventually found by a Ridgeback whom she ended up lashing at because she could sense he was one of Lightweaver's children, but in her state, Lumine could do no damage. Eventually, she caved in once the Ridgeback asked if she desired help, and she was guided to the clan he resided in. The leader(s), Shikai and Hideki, listened to her plea that she was tracking down three dragons from her homeland that had stolen prized possessions, and offered her a home. The Pearlcatcher refused at first, but as she stayed to heal and recover from her journey, she slowly settled into the warmth of the clan and decided to remain there. She works alongside Hamish in keeping historical records and handles the books in the clan library; with her heightened sense of touch, she is able to tell when a book needs mending even if to the eyes they may look in perfect condition. |
