Lea
Clan of Windswept Ashes
Familiar Caretaker

"Do keep your voice down, the birds have gone to sleep."

Lea is an odd sort of dragon; highly opinionated, but soft spoken and gentle with her words, believing that she will accomplish more by ways of kindness than force. This tendency came from her days spent growing up in the Viridian Labyrinth. Her clan's main teaching was to live in perfect harmony with the world around them; to respect the wilderness and to learn of its secrets- and learn she did. Lea spent every waking minute exploring her clan's territory, often not returning to the clan's lair at night. Resting in the wilderness with both the dangerous beasts and the timid ones was how she connected with the world.

She found her calling in life one night as she woke up to the growl of a mantled foo drooling over her, obviously ready for a meal. Without even thinking, she rolled onto her back and hugged her legs to her belly, then raked her sharp talons across the foo's stomach. As it fell to the ground with a terrible howling, she leapt up to her feet. What she saw as she got up, however, was not what she expected. Her attacker was a hungry foo, but nothing more than that. If she had spotted the foo before it had spotted her, she probably would have tried to snatch it up as a meal as well. Somehow, the sense of reality that crept into her after her life had almost been ended made a profound impact on her.

An impact that led her to bring the foo back to her den and nurse it back to full health.

From that day forward, Lea and the foo's excursions into the forest became longer and longer, and her clan soon began to worry that she was going to leave them. In the end, she did.

Lea's final visit to her clan's lair was to wish them farewell. She had documented every species that she believed lived in the Viridian Labyrinth, and decided that it was time to move onto exploration in other territories. Her only reminders of her home that she carried away with her were her memories, and a branch that she had torn out of her nest.

...

After many years of traveling, Lea was exploring the Windswept Plateau for species that she had never seen before. She'd been chasing after a shadowy quadrupedal form when she stumbled into a wide clearing, and found herself surrounded by dragons of all shapes and sizes. Instead of being promptly beaten out of the dragons' territory, though, she was welcomed for a meal along with the foo. The food was a delicious alternative to her typical fare, and an old, battle worn tundra faithfully kept her company during the meal. The only disturbance were the animals that overran the camp. A dog bit off part of her meal, and several birds pecked at her feathers as she ate. The final straw, though, was when an eager warcat sank its claws into her back, trying to get a swat at the birds. In a split second, Lea was on her feet, and bared her teeth at the animals, her foo glaring menacingly by her side. The menagerie fell silent.

In the days to come, Lea spent her every waking minute trying to properly feed and train the clan's wild familiars, surprised at how responsive they were to her attention. Day by day, the animals warmed up to her more and more, to the point where she thought of herself as a mother to them all. By the time a month passed, she was given her own cave, in which not only she slept, but the unbonded familiars as well.

Lea had finally found her home.
