Flotsam is young, but she began showing a maternal streak even as a hatchling. Shy and retiring, she is nonetheless naturally disposed to caretaking, and possesses some minor healing knowledge. While the clan's more accomplished healers may take over in cases of mortal injury or dread illness, a simple cold or sniffle is almost always left in Flotsam's care.

While she's generally well-loved by her clanmates, it's hard to know exactly how to treat her: her benevolent, fussy urges and unflagging sweetness are qualities to look up to, but her painful shyness and social awkwardness also make her seem like a creature to be protected, rather than one who protects. She is aware that she doesn't fit neatly into boxes, and sometimes, very rarely, expresses the fact that she wishes she could be stronger, smarter, more assertive. It is hard, she says, to live life in the middle.
