“CYMERI, you are not supposed to do that! *screeches*”

There isn't much that the leader of Clan Astheryl will let slide as far as critique of their leadership goes. Irthos is the exception, and a huge one at that. Although he rarely means actual harm, his straightforward attitude and brutal honesty make for many misunderstandings of what he truly means.

Being a friend to his Clan's leader since childhood, Irthos likes to test the boundaries of what he can get away with. Even though he would never tell a lie, he knows exactly what to say to get under someone's skin. Whether a sly comment or a wrenching truth, Irthos can wield words like weapons if he so chooses. Lucky for everyone else that he uses this wisdom sparingly because of his naturally playful nature.

This inner happiness is also what makes life bearable when he finally does cross a line. By taking his commentary a bit too far, Irthos often finds himself the recipient of some odd punishment. Usually this involves some kind of public humiliation. He was once forced to entertain hatchlings as a clown for an entire week. Although is wasn't the worst week of his life, the costume was a bit much.

A Dash Before Party

The sun was just beginning to rise over the Arcane territory, but most Clans were awake. "Cymeri, come on." A little fae named Irthos begged. "Just go get them, please?" Cymeri, an imperial, sighed. "Do you even know how rare night sky silks are? And to ask me to get the whole set? That's ridiculous!" But the smaller dragon persisted, and eventually Cymeri groaned, gave in, and flew off. Once the imperial was out of sight, Irthos hurried into the centre of the Clan and started shouting orders. "Decorations, over there! Food, there! Presents, there!" Soon all the dragons were busy preparing for Cymeri's surprise birthday party. The silks errand was merely a distraction, so the Clan could set up the party in secret.

Meanwhile, grumbling under his breath, Cymeri was asking around for the night sky silks Irthos had requested. None of the dragons he had spoken to knew of a set anywhere near, and he was ready to give up in despair. "That stupid fae," he muttered. "Where am I supposed to get the silks?" He took a short nap under a tree, exhausted from dashing around Arcane territory. Finally, just when the sun hit the midday mark, he found a full set of night sky silks. A very generous skydancer let Cymeri have them for free, and he thanked her greatly before rushing home. The trees whispered in the faint breeze. Cymeri had forgotten completely that it was his birthday.

"Irthos, I found some!" Cymeri shouted. Panicked, Irthos bounded up to the imperial and blocked the dragon's path. "Uh...that's fantastic! Thanks! But...um...now can you get me a basilisk?" Cymeri felt like he was about to explode. "What?" He snarled. "You have got to be kidding." Irthos shook his head. "I'm not. Please?" Cymeri was too tired to argue, and just stormed back outside again. He went in search of a basilisk, but he wasn't really trying. Relieved, Irthos scrambled back to the other dragons. "We have to hurry!" He yelped. "Cymeri will be back soon," he added. The rest of the Clan sped up in their work. Even the hatchlings were winding ribbons around trees and rocks.

Though he hadn't found a basilisk, Cymeri returned to the Clan, tired out from walking. He frowned when he arrived - everything was decorated, but his fellow dragons were nowhere to be seen. Confused, the imperial entered the main area of the Clan. He was about to call out, when suddenly his friends burst out from various hiding places. "Happy birthday!" They chorused cheerfully. Cymeri stood with his mouth open for a moment, then he grinned. "Woah - thanks, guys!" He exclaimed. Then he turned to Irthos. "Wait...did I get those silks for nothing?" He asked suspiciously. "I needed you out of the way," Irthos admitted. Cymeri was too pleased to stay mad, so he sighed and set about looking at presents and eating the delicious food.

"You know, you could have just asked me nicely to leave for a bit," Cymeri mumbled to Irthos, his mouth muffled by a mouthful of fish. "Sorry," Irthos replied apologetically, though he didn't really sound sorry. Yawning, Cymeri headed off to bed early. There was nothing like searching for things all day to make you weary. Irthos chuckled a little and stared at the sunset, which soon vanished like a drop of blood into the night.
