Mythic
After keeping his secrets hidden for months,
Mythic has finally come forward and revealed his expertise in sorcery...

Dusk had just fallen when Mythic arrived on the outskirts of the clan's western border. A storm was brewing in the distance, dark clouds were gathering over the distant Sea of a Thousand Currents and there was a grim, pleading look in the imperial's eyes. Despite the droop of his weary wings and the dust caked scales that spoke of many days of hard travel, the few dragons that were present on his arrival noticed the pride with which he still carried himself. Though wary of his presence and untimely arrival, Shiq and Shindri agreed to allow him to take shelter with them that evening. On the following morning, the weather had only worsened and Mythic had no choice but to remain with the clan for another day. Throughout the day, a handful of bedraggled dragons returned. It was a fight for them to return to the lair, and as they approached the safety of the clan's underground network of tunnels, the wind all but swept them away.
That night, as the growing clan gathered together in the largest of their caverns, the storm raged on outside, producing lightning fierce enough to rival that of the Tempest Spire. Though the dragons who had been born on the Shifting Expanse were stoic in the face of the storm, many of the others soon abandoned all pretense of appearing brave and huddled together. For the few who slept through the rolling thunder that accompanied the roaring winds and pounding rain, there were many more who lay awake, praying to the deities for the storm to end.

For a time, late in the night, their guest disappeared, fading away into the shadows. It wasn't until he reappeared in the earliest hours of the morning that anyone realized he had gone. Settling himself at a respectable distance from the others, he loosed a long, low growl that reverberated through the rock around them in a soothing manner, easing the tension that had built up with each rumble of thunder that had come in the night. "I must apologize, I fear I have brought this storm upon you." Most of the clan lay awake now, their interest piqued and their attention at last drawn away from the tempest outside. "A fearsome thing drove my clan apart, we had no choice but to flee our home in any direction that might offer us an escape... That was a fortnight ago, and though I have searched much of Sornieth for my clan, I have searched in vain... It seems wherever I go, some ill fate follows in my wake..."

The Imperial paused then, taking a deep breath in an attempt to dispel the guilt weighing upon him. His jaws parted again, and it appeared that he would say more. As the dragons around him lie waiting, they began to doze off, one by one. The storm outside them has finally quieted, and Mythic knew it was time to take his leave. As quietly as he could, he left the cavern and wandered through the warren of tunnels, trusting his instincts to lead him to the surface of the Shifting Expanse.

When at last he had resurfaced, he was about to take flight when a young Skydancer approached him. "This storm had nothing to do with you. It was an unfortunate coincidence..." Mythic waited patiently as Dzu spoke, "The night you arrived... My mate and I lost the last egg of our first clutch. We had produced two, but neither survived. She was devastated by the lost of the first egg. The second was too much. There has always been lightning in her, more than the rest of us. In her heart, her mind. It overtook her, and the result... was this storm." A grim smile played upon his lips, "She was named appropriately. Tempest. She means no harm, and though she conjures vicious storms, it is the safest outlet for her. For all of us." Mythic followed Dzu's eyes and realized there was a female Ridgeback, lying in a heap on the ground nearby. "I can't speak for the rest of the clan, but don't let this sway you. Please, stay."

Before Mythic had a chance to address the Skydancer, he had left his side to tend to his mate. Mythic settled himself in that spot, his gaze directed towards the younger pair as he considered what he had heard. If what Dzu said was true, perhaps what he had mistaken for a curse was indeed just coincidence... The longer he sat, rooted to the spot, brooding over the events of the past week, the more sure he felt. Still, though he now knew that the incident that had driven his clan apart was not his own doing, he shelved away a portion of his past, of his identity for another day.

At last the sun had broken through the gray clouds above, and the light returned to Mythic's eyes. With a start he realized that he was not alone, though Tempest and Dzu were no longer before him. Several dragons stood at a distance, clearly waiting for him. Two Guardians, a Mirror and an Imperial formed a motley crew. The first, Shiq, seemed to be accompanied by the second Guardian, Crest, who clearly took it upon himself to defend the younger Guardian. The Imperial, Nedakh, had kind eyes, but a lean, powerful body. And the Mirror beside her looked like lightning incarnate. Crest stepped forward, spreading his wings slightly as he spoke: "We knew the truth of the matter, of course. And Dzu has told us that you now know the real cause of the storm that arrived shortly after you. The choice is yours, but you are welcome to stay with us." After a moment of silence he departed and the others followed slowly, one by one.

Though he was reluctant at first, Mythic eventually followed their path back into the bowels of the clan's lair. A livelihood filled the lair now that the storm had passed. In time, some of the tension Mythic carried left him, though traces still remained. As a new member of the clan, it took time for the Imperial to find his place, and though he had skills to offer, he refused to share his abilities with the others, fighting to bury that part of him as deep within himself as was possible....
