HEWLETT

Hewlett is something of an enigma to everyone who inhabits the clan. Despite being born in the plague lands, he has renounced all allegiance to the Plaguebringer, spurning the savage competition and the wounds and pestilence of what should be his homeland. By Icewarden, what do you think he is? He may have the temper and fighting skill of one plagueborn, but by all that is good in the world, he considers the methods absolutely distasteful. Too much savagery to the methods of plague, too much underhandedness. (And, frankly, although he would never admit it himself, the methods disgust him, offend his sensibilities.)

He has an appropriate frozen and unwavering personality, his wanderings from the plaguelands finding him in the depths of the beautiful hoarfrosted expanse. It was here he found dragons like himself, frigid as the breath of a December morning and fond of the past, beautiful as aspects of it. Unable to escape his plague birth, he found himself inclined to the arts of battle, but not the insensitive and up close sparring that he so detested. The clan's designated strategist, he has a certain savage insight into the manuveurs of battle, the one two three victories of a well organized battle team. He keeps himself removed, monitoring things like a true dispassionate general (the members of the clan quondam sometimes call himthe Major, rather than Hewlett), taking idle pleasure in victories that bring glory to the clan, spending his time reading accounts of past legends of battle. The history he loves even more than the organization, keeping records and scrolls on the past mights of leaders in his lair.

The Major is a dragon of structure, not particularly close to any one member of the clan, although he enjoys swapping annals with Kavallerie, who's silence he respects deeply. When everyone talks too much for his tastes, he can't help but appreciate a quiet scholar. He, of course, enjoys the company of his faithful familiar, who he's dubbed Bucephalus as a reference to one of his idols. He dotes on the spoiled little thing, on occasion, enjoying feeding it scraps of sweet fruit from the clan's hoard.

He pledges idle allegiance to the Icewarden over any of the other various deities, considering this clan the best settlement for him in the grand scheme of things- besides, it quite pleases the Matriarch. Who would have guessed that a dragon born of the festering plague could have such a love for the neat and smooth flats of the Southern Icefields? Cailleach enjoys cryptically saying that all souls find the place they're meant to be.

Unbeknownst to most, the gelid commander has a rather secret love- the observation of the stars. Not in the arcane way, as he spurns the mysticism involved, but in the lovely, scientific way, the way the auroras light up the skies of the Southern Icefields, and the way comets sweep through the skies, covering the constellations. If you'd ever ask, he'd be happy to tell you about how a particular comet's path was considered a foreboding at the battle of such and such back in the Second Age. Comets might be one of his favorites because they have something that some of the dragons he interacts with do not- structure, order, perfect reliability.

"You don't actually expect me to dirty my claws with that, do you? That is most certainly not my responsibility."
