Biography

Abel
(ay-bell)
Second-born Son | Apprentice Spy | Sanctorum Defector
33w8h1t.jpg
The Nightling clan leaders Abraxas and Abbadon hatched two sons, the first born Cain, and him – the Second-Born Son Abel. As second born he was to take up the Nightling business of collecting secrets, later to be wed off to strengthen relations between the Sanctorum and neighboring clans.

Backstory
As the second-born son of the Nightling Clan, Abel has been delegated to the background of clan life. Instead of being taught about the history of Sorneith, of how his clan is a hub of secrets collected from across all flights, he was handed off to Carnelia. While the bright red Skydancer also cared for his brother, Amon, the future heir spent most of his time with Belial and Murmur and mother and father. Abel caught bits and pieces of his brothers lessons by sneaking around, hiding in places too small for fully-grown Dragons. However Babylon always managed to find him (claiming he wasn't as stealthy as he thought he was, some thing Abel knew to be a total lie) and delivered him back into the arms of a relieved Carnelia. He knew he should feel some regret at worrying her so, but he didn't. He was taught the stations within the Sanctotum and knew that the red dragons that moved about the halls were there to serve his own clan, and so their emotional state was beneath him (this didn't stop him from feeling a bit guilty, and so left her one of the trinkets Tinuviel had given him from one of her excursions into the wildlands).

It was on one of his prowling sessions that Abel realized the fate that would befall him as the Second-born Son of his parents -- while his brother would stay to continue the line, to eventually run the clan, he would be placed as Grigori's apprentice before eventually being bonded to a neighbouring clans daughter in order to strengthen clan relations.

This, to Abel, was unacceptable! He was already lost in the shadow of his brothers perfection, how Amon was the apparent picture of a Nightling heir while he himself was constantly being scolded for having fun (maybe practicing his flying in the inner courtyard while the clothes were hanging to dry wasn't his smartest move, but it was still one of his best excursions yet.)

So Abel came up with a plan. There was no way he could live attached to the Sanctorum, he couldn't live a life that was all planned out for him. He wanted to fly free and have fun, like Tinuviel. She may have been Head of their security but she knew how to have fun, encouraging his antics. His plan wasn't the smartest and to be fair he wasn't the best at planning, but it would at least get him out of this place.

He enlisted Fuego, his fathers Manservant, to help smuggle him out of the Sanctorum. He felt terrible that he was preying on the Wildclaws paternal feelings (he had just lost his first and only son days prior, stillborn in the shell. It was easier to convince him, but the guilt cut deep into his stomach). So under the cover of night, through passages known only to servants, Abel fled his birth home. He would live his own life, unburdened by birth or by responsibility.

He would never return to the Sanctorum, never.

Recognizing the impetuous tone and rebellious posture of the hatchling as the sign of an outcast with everything to prove, Emma chose to bestow the clan's wind sprite to Abel's care. Something to foster that wild, freedom-loving nature.

And, perhaps, to convince him that all winds return back to where they came from someday, changed though they may be from their journeying.

But never for long, for if a wind is anything it is ever-changing.
