All he knew was his way with animals. Privign had found many a home as a Beastclan tender and familiar breaker; he brought some of the wildest Beastclan members, and worked with them to show them that not all of dragonkind was wicked and horrid. He'd gotten bitten by a Onyx cobra as a whelpling, and contracted gembond as a result. He had sworn it was an old wyrm's tale, but alas, the crimson, glittering gems are a testament to the fact that it wasn't.

He came upon the Clan of the Blue Maiden not long after he had acquired another Beastclan tender to his prior clan. Priv didn't stick in one place for too long, you see. He mostly trained up new Beastclan wranglers and went on his way, teaching and befriending most he came across. There was a strange Imperial he had met, in his time in the Scarred Wastelands; the dragon's name was Kanen, from the clan Valsaria. He felt an odd attraction towards the dragon, a fondness for the male's standoffish and almost foolish level of confidence.

He fell out of touch with Kanen, after his third or fourth encounter with him; the Valsaria were moving, he heard, to the Plagued lands. How wonderful! He could see Kanen more often, now, once the move was finished and they had settled in. So he thought.. Weeks and months passed, and he heard nothing from Kanen. He went to see what the holdup was, why Kanen had just stopped his visits, and tragedy hit him. Kanen had died, bit by an Emerald Striker on his routine hunting; he was too far from the Clan to be able to get the medical attention he needed, and died in the field. Privign let out a grievous wail at the stoop of the allied clan, and collapsed into a pile and sobbed. He never felt such pain and loss, before, and the loss of this dragon he felt such a bond with utterly ruined him.

Sebastian and Iizstrun noticed the change in his mood; the usually peppy and resiliant Ridgeback was struck with grief, on the brink of collapse and death. Well, they couldn't just let such a useful fellow die, could they? Iizstrun worked his forbidden magic on Privign, and the sweet, numbing embrace of ice worked it's way into the crystal-flecked scales of the Ridgeback, and carried the pain away with it. He wasn't alive, but he wasn't dead, either. He was suspended in that strange limbo, and a terrible hunger gnawed at his throat and stomach. He had to eat; what he ate, it mattered not. But he needed to feed.. constantly, ravenously, Privign devoured everything before him. He lost his spark, his life-drive, and did as they ordered him to, becoming the Shadetouched-Spiral's Wendigo.. his misguided, cruel will.
