Before she could even crawl, the bubbling surface of a steaming cauldron fascinated Perenelle. The mysterious nature of transmutation struck a chord with her that nothing else did. It was somewhat taboo for a Nature dragon to love such an unnatural art, but she didn't care. Even the somewhat gray moral area of whether or not it was ethical to melt down living, breathing creatures such as familiars and the Beastclan down to base alchemical components didn't shake her love of all things alchemy. Alchemy sears her heart to such things, and she will pursue it to the uttermost. She can be frighteningly heartless where her experiments are involved, and her rule is "So long as it didn't come from dragonkind, it's welcome in the pot." Because, of course, it is dangerous and foolish to transmute your own kind...

Her first foray into alchemy made her claws glow green. Undaunted, she embraced this as some mark of progress and persevered, melting down whatever she could find and trying out alchemical recipes she found in books. After many days of scrambling and gathering ingredients, she once again attempted to craft something with alchemy. The living blob that blinked up at her was a major disappointment to the young alchemist hoping for something with teeth and claws. However, it was simply so endearing to the alchemist that she couldn't hate it, and even named it Gobs. Her first created life remained her familiar for some time until she gifted it to the wildclaw who stole her heart, a necromancer named Hecate.

Perenelle shares her laboratory with the lovely Hecate and an imperial the couple took to as soon as they met her, Jadis the poison maker. Unexpected guests who don't enter via the proper channels will be greeted by Jadis's vicious serpenta, and Jadis is very withholding of the antidote. The three dragons prefer to be left to their own devices, but if trouble arises in the clan it's a sure bet that they'll respond quickly to quell the threat, since they actually like their clan and its peaceful, laid-back manners.

Perenelle's interest is alchemy first and foremost. She will go ahead with research that intrigues her without thinking of the repercussions or the feelings of anyone affected. She never sets out to hurt anyone, but she does take risks at their expense. This has gotten her into trouble in the past, and she frequently faces punishment and scrutiny, yet little seems to sink in. She does seem to defer to Hecate at times, though she can be willful and stubborn even with her.

Few are welcome in her laboratory, unless they're paying for services or invited. She takes her personal space seriously, and those who intrude without her permission are guaranteed to rile her ire quickly. She still has some wildclaw left in her, so she won't back down from a confrontation despite not having much skill in combat, even if the antagonist is someone much bigger and stronger than she is. She attacks wildly, without a plan, so she's easily to outmaneuver or overpower.

Perenelle is a very proud dragon. This pride is largely what blinds her to the ethics of her actions and the wisdom (or lack thereof) in her actions. She rarely apologizes or makes reparations for her actions, and it takes a lot of patience or rough treatment to get her to even consider that she may be in the wrong. When her pride is hurt, she will either get defensive or fall into a depressive state, which often drives her to seek comfort from her few friends. She has felt guilt truly, however, and it drove her to take the change she forced upon another, the bogsneak mutagen. Though she was hoping it would show remorse and solidarity, there is still a rift between her and the wronged dragon, and she isn't entirely happy in her new body either.
