"I'm not really sure how it got started - how I got started. Some Lightning researchers thinking 'Hey, wouldn't it be cool if we spliced Maren and eel genes into an Imperial zygote and see what happens'?. Yeah, probably like that. 'Course, I'm only a 'partial success' because they didn't think to incubate me anywhere near Water territory, so I'm like half fish but I can't actually, y'know, breathe underwater or control any of it.

"So what did they decide to do with their sorta-failed science experiment once they'd poked and prodded at him long enough? Throw him away and start over. I think they had initially planned to ship me out to the Boss anyway, but figured the delivery might hurt their bottom line too much, with me being so big and not able to do more than crawl and flop around on solid land, so one of them just dumped me into the nearest wastewater stream and yelled 'Be free!' and left. Come to think of it, she might have been drunk. Thank the Eleven that drained into a bigger river and eventually the sea, else I would have most probably died right there.

"Not much food in the Shifting Expanse, and way too many eager science-minded dragons who would have loved catching and dissecting me, so I just made it for the ocean. I'd peeked at it on the maps, heard talk of it, so I figured a big body of water might be the safest place for me. Hadn't anticipated the salt water though - gross. Made my way to the Sea of a Thousand Currents instead, swimming through Light territory, upstream all the way. Found out Water territory was pretty nice, but still not quite all it was cracked up to be. Too much suspicion, too much animosity against anything even remotely Maren. Plus the whole not being able to control water and still needing to breathe air and everything."

"So why did you come to the Viridian Labyrinth? And why us specifically?"

"Why come to Nature?" He scoffs and shrugs. "I'unno. I'm a freak of nature, so I wondered if maybe that might work literally too, like, folks at Nature'd be more accepting or stuff? And you've got fresh water and food, and eventually word-of-mouth reached me about you guys, and how you were like, extra accepting or something, so here I am. There aren't many seafood eaters in your group either, so I won't really upset no one if I eat some fish and crayfish from your streams, right? Not much else I'm all that useful for, sorry. Creating me as a water-locked Lightning dragon was pretty much the most useless way they could have made me. I can't even use my magic unless I wanted to electrocute everyone around, myself included."
