B I O G R A P H Y

"Mountain," Storm said to her gently. He was sitting in his study, many different shaped and colored rocks and jewels reflecting light in odd patterns on the walls. He turned his head around to face her and waited calmly for her to continue. "I can't stay here any longer."

Her words came as a shock, but he kept his face composed. He spoke to her softly, though his deep voice echoed off the walls. "Why is that?"

She looked flustered for a moment. "There's something here."

Mountain raised an eyebrow. She knew what it was, she was just sparing him. "It's the Shade. We have to leave. Get whatever you can. We depart tomorrow."

She turned out of the cave after a moment, her heavy feet forcing an echoing clank against the concrete trail made through the sand of the Shifting Expanse.

He looked around. He couldn't take everything, which he knew. He looked over to the stack of books on his table, etched with a Shadow symbol. Above him, to glimmering rocks caught his eye. Those two out of a collection of hundreds seem to draw him in slowly, until he had mindlessly picked them up and put them next to the book. He didn't know where he was going, but despite the small necessities that was all he brought.

The next day when he awoke, there was nobody left and the area seemed oddly quiet. He picked up the rather light satchel he had prepared and carried it over to the entrance. He nearly closed the door for the last time when he frantically remembered he had forgotten the jewels and tome.

He stepped outside, everything clutched tightly in his hand, and looked back. The ground was ebbing and moving with a black substance. He faced forward and took flight, off to unknown land.
