As the daughter of an oracle it was of little surprise that Toyotama had been born with the ability to commune with the dead, though the extent her ability reached was unexpected, even for her mother. As a young child the voices and spiritual forms of those who had departed were a near constant companion, her age and inexperience with the arts unable to let her tune out their conversations or visages. It wasn't until she grew much older studying under her mothers ways was she able to dispell the spectres around her. Sometimes she would spy one peering through the veil despite all of her concentration, wandering, often times sitting and observing the living world around them. They would never notice her until she spoke to them first, and throughout her adolescent years she found solace in these phantom strangers, asking them for counsel or merely seeking them out for conversation. Her mother had grown increasingly busy as she grew older, and her father had always been distant from she and her siblings, even if he was still kind to them in passing. Often she found those who had lived their life were more friendly and forthcoming about their successes and failures, and their guidance, more so than those who were still living theirs.

Toyotama left her clan one day, eager and willing to see the rest of the world. She travelled through the snowy wastes of the ice fields and headed north east across the sea towards the windswept plateau, a place of merriment and joy, she had heard, in passing from those of clan Skemmdeljött who once resided there. It was all she had ever imagined and more, for a time, until one night she awoke under the stars to an unfamiliar feeling niggling in the back of her head, and a voice as faint as a whisper heard on the horizon. She barely had time to decipher what was going on before the ground beneath her feet began to shake, and the voice grew louder and more desperate, sending shivers in waves across her skin. Help. Help me. Toyotama only glanced upwards when the sky around her grew darker, to see her own kind staring back at her, thrice, with sickly glazed eyes and drooling maws. It was not the source of the voice, at least not physically. Time stood still and sped up in a single instance. Barely could she recall her mothers teachings on the mockery that stood before her, what often became of imperials when they were slain so close together. As the heads snaked and opened their jaws to hiss, she heard it again, the voice, and she recoiled and squirmed, trying hard to block it from entering her mind. Help me. HELP ME.

The second she couldn't take those screams any longer was the moment a barrage of elemental fire rained down upon her, her adversary suddenly alert and upon her like some dismal flame had been lit behind those deceased eyes. She only returned fire when the beast managed to land a direct hit on her hind leg, forcing her from flight to fight in seconds despite her entire body quivering with fear like she had never felt before, her heart pounding in her throat and threatening to choke her right there and then. Toyotama doesn't remember much after that. She recalls attempting to flee and being brought right back down to the earth again, teeth embedded in her flesh and wings. She remembers unleashing torrents of ice down on her foe and somehow managing to ascend into the sky as it screamed at her again, to help it, dear eleven, help it. She also remembers flying until her battered wings hurt, and her body felt numb, and the pain as she crashlanded to the ground in an unfamiliar, visceral place, and the sound of the emperor still pleading ringing in her ears as her eyes began to close, as unfamiliar figures loomed over her with worry and pity in their stares.

Toyotama still believes that the call was what urged her to continue flying north even after she had danced with death. Despite her loyalty today it was easily missed back when she had woken up in Lorica for the first time, surrounded by strangers led by one small, unassuming fae. They had explained how they had found her and who they and their pantheon were, but Toyotama didn't remain lucid long enough to personally thank them. She became almost catatonic, laying in the streets and retreating within her mind entirely to shut out those screams. It was the only way to concentrate fully, to shut off any and all links to the ethereal realm, the only way to get that damned voice out of her head. It wasn't until weeks later when Midnight arrived was she able to coax the imperial out of her stupor and return her to some semblance of normalcy, training her in ways even her mother could not on how to truly control her clairvoyant abilities. These days it is rare for Toyotama to see spirits or hear that voice calling out to her, though often it, at times, invades her dreams at her most vulnerable. It isn't rare to find her wandering at night when the rest of the city sleeps, training or conversing to herself in order to keep her visions at bay. Through this she has become a seasoned warrior, convinced that her calling is to protect the clan at all costs. Others say she is sworn to her duty, while some say she is preparing herself for a fight she hopes will never come.

Toyotama spends most of her days training alongside her fellow mercenaries to protect the clan during their travels in the breach and caring for her adopted children like they were her own flesh and blood. Having arrived in Lorica near the beginning of its conception she has gained respect both for her age and servitude, although often she feels like she doesn't deserve it. It is a content life, despite her tribulations, though it would be a lie to say that her once rhythmic life hasn't been shaken up by her children, two beacons of light in an otherwise bleak void. The debilitating nightmares are always less so when you have those who care by your side.
