Biography
In the ice flight we know; life is cruel. Death is release. Some clans live and breathe by this motto, infusing it into their every moment upon Sornieth. Younglings who leave the Southern Icefield are either lucky, or strong beyond their years. I was not so lucky, nor was I strong. I endured the harsh winters of my youth, though the barren ice plains were the least of my worries. What is worse than the inhospitable climate are the dragons that choose to stay there of their own volition. I do not like to speak of my childhood, nor my younger years in the ice fields. I will not recount the number of times I came close to death, and even longed for it when it would not come. I will not recount the abuse I endured from my former clanmates, the numerous scars I received both on my frostbitten hide as well as my psyche. I will simply say that when I finally escaped and found River, she offered me a choice and I took it. River looked down at my small broken body, and I swear we understood one another without saying a word. Her blue eyes captured mine and I could see the pain and loss she had endured. They mirrored my own: white, clouded with grief and bitterness. She called over a bright spiral with scrolls strapped to his hip. He looked at me thoughtfully, unfurled one, made a few small notes and handed it to River. She took the curled page, turning again to me and set it between us. "I see what you have been through, and I know." With a single claw she drew back the maroon wrappings about her neck to show a set of deep, dark scars. "Join our Clan. Leave it all behind, recreate yourself anew." I looked down at the scroll, which had some strange writing I did not understand. But there was also a picture, one which glimmered and changed as I looked at it... A small broken fae, covered in scars transforming into the most beautiful creature I had seen. "Accept the scroll and join my counsel. My clan could use your expertise. You will have ample room, food, and support here." I took the scroll without hesitating, hungry to be rid of my old shell. The strange runes within began to glow and I felt a strange surge of power coarse through my veins. Suddenly I was not looking up at River any longer--we sat nearly eye to eye, on even ground. My body felt strangely heavy, laden with iridescent feathers and a fine coat of colorful fur.
"Thank you, River." I dipped into a bow before her. "My counsel and my claw are both yours."
