Biography

Desolation is the clan's jailor, a duty necessitated by Durnikos. Nothing is known of his past, and he is sufficiently intimidating that no one dares ask him. Despite this, he can be friendly. He is the honorary big brother of Coriandezirae, and to her he is the gentlest and kindest thing. He is very protective, but he does his best to allow her to make her own choices and make mistakes so she can learn from them. Syndara is somewhat jealous of his mate's love of her 'brother Desu'. He has a strange hatred of Afarra, though he won't openly show it.

Though he would never tell a soul, Desolation was once a member of a vicious band of thieves. He wasn't the highest ranking thief, in fact he only got to keep a 20% cut of his loot, but it was enough for him to live comfortably. He didn't make any friends, but he didn't feel like he needed to. He was in this for money, nothing else. It was a good gig until things went sour one night. One of the gang attacked another. One died. Another vowed vengeance and fled. Things continued as normal for a few days, but then it was discovered that their old femme fatale meant to make good on her vow. Every night another of their number fell. Nothing detered her. Desolation saw where this was going and chose to leave the troop before he met his death. He followed the pack from a distance, tracking them from what remains he could find of their night camps. Evidence of their huntress was sparce, but he identified her as Afarra and was sure all the while that she was alive. Eventually he came to what must have been the final camp. The last of his comrades lay dead in the sand, surrounded by their looted goods. Afarra hadn't taken anything. Desolation thought to recover as much as he could. Except... he wouldn't get far if he tried to haul all of the stolen goods at once. In the end, he decided it would be wisest to travel light and only take things he could transport sans wagon. Besides, he didn't want to be here if Afarra came back. He quickly suited up in what armor they had. No full suits, sadly. A hood to help hide his gang's mark. Some jewelry he could pawn in exchange for meals and safe passage through near clans. He was just about ready to leave when Alimar's sword caught his eye. Why hadn't Afarra taken it? It didn't really matter, he supposed. A blade would be useful.

Desolation knew he couldn't survive alone in the desert. And, as he traveled around some more, he realized he didn't really wish to. He was done being a thief. He was ready to settle down. He was vexed when, a few months after he'd settled in Drakel, he scented that Afarra was nearby. Had she followed him? Was it coincidence?

As it became obvious that the villain vampress was hunting around and within Drakel's territory, Desolation felt that he needed to do something. No one else here knew of her threat. He set out to end her hunts.

On his return to Drakel in full, the relieved Nirvherr stepped down from his temporary role as jail guard. Desolation apologized for his recent disappearance but didn't offer any explanation, and Nirvherr knew better than to inquire further. Curiously there were a few newcomers to Drakel, most interestingly another dust-pelted Coatl. He planned to get to know her better, and this seemingly random instance would eventually bloom into a full romance.
