He is the Keeper of their deity's precious few mortal parts and pieces, gifted to their clan for its piety.

And he is also widely described as insane.

If he isn't whispering or ranting or cackling in his secret chambers, he's cavorting about the many temples to their Plaguebringer, with all the boundless energy that being a Spiral entails, raving gleefully about gods and demons and the Secret Deities that work in silence all around them--though none are as glorious as the Plaguebringer, in his eyes. It's little wonder that he guards Her sacred flesh like he does, and he constantly espouses the wonder and glory of Her presence among them: She rots and dies but does not abandon them, and She is the one who keeps the world in glorious balance. She is the one who will never abandon them, as long as they keep giving Her the respect that She deserves.

...But. That is precisely the problem. The Brotherhood doesn't give her that respect. They've even stooped so terribly low that they tolerate dissenters in their ranks, and those who call their goddess a lie.

Astrid. It is Astrid who contributed to this decline the most. Even her secret mate--not so secret to him!--openly disdains him, and worse...disdains the gods. The Brotherhood has strayed, and betrayed all that it should stand for: the glory of the Plaguebringer.

Cicero won't tolerate it for too long, though. Cicero has always been a faithful servant to his deities.

Cicero was still an assassin for many years, until Her remains called to him.

And Cicero can still kill, even if his last kill of the Jester utterly broke his mind. But until then, he waits.
