Genius | Inquisitive | Enthusiastic
Aude never imagined that her lair would grow so much, and so quickly. She certainly never foresaw the introduction of what has grown into a proper teahouse, Aerperla’s beautiful extensive gardens, a proper sparring arena or the many laboratories and studies for the others. As much as she loves every single part of what her lair has become, she struggled to create and manage the infrastructure that all her diverse clanmembers required for their passions. There were always big problems to solve – how to manage irrigation for the gardens without disruptions to water for others; how to mask the smells or noises of experiments, how to provide light and amenities to all – as well as little individual problems, such as creating a system of storage for Bonita’s magical artefacts that would keep both the artefacts and lair inhabitants safe. So she put out word that the lair needed a solver of problems - an expert in the practical, the logical and the well-thought-through. At the same time, she also put feelers out to find an expert in research skills to assist her most curious (if not very experienced) clanmembers in their various fields.

After several dragons drifted in and out without being much help, a kindly teahouse customer brought Aude word of an unlikely pair of dragons with quite a reputation for brilliance in both problem solving and research skills. After hearing more about them from other customers, Aude set out on an expedition to convince that pair to join the lair armed with her friendly determination and an offer to create them their own laboratory (along with a bribe of tea and Lacuscorusco and Aureusnoctem’s finest cakes). Whether it was Aude, the lair or the cakes that won them over no-one will ever know, but that is how the inseparable Leo and Jemma became permanent members of the lair.

From the time of her hatching, Jemma was unlike both other Imperials and her Earth kin. Rather than devote her keen mind to the past she turned it to the future and to progress, fuelled by boundless curiosity. What’s more, her chipper, likable and chatty nature meant the other imperials regarded her as strange – not that this bothered Jemma all that much, as she got on well enough with everyone anyway. Despite a few odd quirks of personality (such as taking some things very literally and going off on factual tangents in the middle of conversation) Jemma is an incredibly likeable creature. She is not at all emotionally distant like most Imperials, but certainly does have trouble expressing her emotions, especially regarding others. She enjoyed the company of most everyone in her birth lair (and indeed everyone she met), but never found anyone really interesting enough to truly befriend, instead always moving on to the next puzzle or next opportunity to learn. So, even as a hatchling, when an organisation of Light and Arcane dragons offered her the chance to leave her lair and study amongst others such as herself she jumped at the chance.

Jemma adored learning and living amongst other academic dragons, but still never found anyone who operated quite at her level. In fact, the only dragon she even considered as interesting was her main competitor as ‘smartest dragon there’ - a strange, quiet Tundra (of all dragons!) named Leo who, since she arrived, had barely spoken a word to her. Offended by his standoffishness, she took him to be her rival and hated him, working as hard as she could in every area to beat him. Until, that is, to Jemma’s complete dismay, they were assigned to work together on a project. Several days in Leo finally spoke up and began to speak to her more and more, and she found she quite enjoyed his company - in fact, he really was the most interesting dragon there. She realised that if they worked together instead of being rivals they would be an unstoppable force. Since then the two have been inseparable, working together on every problem presented to them. When Aude came to the pair with her offer, it was Jemma who recognised this as an opportunity to work on their own projects while meeting all kinds of other unique and curious dragons travelling through the lair – a chance to learn from students of the world instead of just from scrolls and other academics. She convinced Leo this was their best course of action, and with that the pair packed up and moved to their new home. Though much of their conversation appears to be made up of unintelligible argumentative science they understand each other in a way no-one else can, and much of their private communication is done simply through actions, betraying how much they care for one another (even if they don't always say it). It was Leo who first realised he felt something more for Jemma than friendship. Though initially she did not know what to do about his feelings - a strange time for them both, and for those around them - Jemma slowly came to realise that she did indeed feel the same way.

Jemma is an infinite source of ideas. She is always finding new and mysterious artefacts, flora and fauna and examining them on every level to best understand and recombine those things with fascinating new attributes and applications. She works closely with Glacies, helping to guide her in the development of medicines, as well as with Bonita and Aerperla to improve their magical and botanical work respectively. She gets on well with most everyone, but has a particularly strong and unlikely friendship with the powerhouse that is Sanra. Along with Leo, she works closely with Aude and the other lair founders to keep everything running smoothly.

Jemma and Leo’s reputations are well known, and dragons come from all over to seek their help and expertise on all kinds of issues.
