Serket was a precious, if rambunctious, child. She pleased her father to no end, while her mother feigned impatience at her youthful antics. She found a playmate in Tongshi, a Pearlcatcher hatchling who came to Stormbay as new blood. The pair had many adventures, across mountains made of dusty books and over seas of discarded trinkets. They journeyed to the farthest edge of the lair and back home safe.

One day, Serket broke her pearl. It fell from a terrible distance and split right in two. From that day on, Serket was broken as well. Her father, a Ridgeback, didn't and doesn't understand. He tries to comfort her and lift her spirits. He wants to bring back her light. But her mother knows better. Her mother has only sad pity for her. Serket had broken her pearl, the manifestation of her soul.

For a while she was angry. She was enraged, and nothing could stop the terror of her wounded heart. The final nail drove into the coffin after Tongshi's accident. He was twice her size now, more than that. Adults looked at him and saw an equal. They looked at her and saw a child. But she's more mature than he could ever be. She knows the abyssal weight of a loss so deep she feels it in her bones with every lumbering breath she takes.

Now she's void of passion, apathetic and depressed near constantly. The best you'll ever get from her is a thin, wry smile that doesn't lessen the deadened stare of her dull blue eyes. She sees herself as a nothing. A nothing that continues to live even though it should be dead. She's waiting.
