HISTORY/LORE

Despite being the eldest of her brothers and sisters, Mokele is like a child at heart, enjoying soft and fluffy things, often needs to be watched over, and tends to get herself in situations she shouldn’t. Mokele doesn’t express herself well, even in the typical Fae sense, she’s barely able to position her frills in a way that matches how she’s feeling. Nobody knows why that is, but Libby, the clan therapist, believes that there’s something going on in Mokele’s brain that interferes with that way of communicating. Libby and the other Skydancers, however, are able to read Mokele’s energy and emotions well…for the most part. Sometimes even those ways of knowing how Mokele is feeling can be hard to determine, and Libby believes the Fae’s brain may have something to do with it. There’s no certainty on what to do about it though.

Her father, Gomrin, and her brother, Yorikiro, often describe her as “special” not only for her oddities of expressing herself in an abnormal way, but also for her social patterns and her way of thinking (which is really just because they have a bit more of an “ideal” on what’s considered “normal” in these assets). Mokele enjoys socializing with other dragons, especially ones who peak her interest the most—for one reason or another—but she gets social anxiety due to other dragons having a hard time understanding her. It’s already bad enough, in Mokele’s eyes, that other breeds often struggle to understand Fae body language and how they’re feeling by tone due to speaking in a monotoned voice, but even other Faes tend to struggle with understanding her. Consequently, Mokele ends up spending the majority of her time alone until she feels ready to be around other dragons. Mokele is capable of speaking, but more often than not, she prefers to communicate by other means such as writing, doodling, or for Coatls, sign language (which only works out if the Coatl she’s communicating with knows sign language as well). Sign language is a skill she taught herself, and even makes teaching others to do it a hobby.

Mokele is a bit of a mix bag in the eyes of other dragons. Some can tolerate her oddity while others end up feeling confused or uneasy due to her habit of staring, observing from a distance or in the shadows, or her refusal to make eye contact; Mokele always looks away whenever the dragon she’s staring at catchers her doing so. She does so because eye contact makes her uncomfortable.

Her clan mates have made observations of her when compared to her parents. Mokele is very soft-hearted like her mother, Gracie, but she has anger issues like her father, though not nearly as bad. In fact, those who have known Mokele her entire life can even point out that she’s mellowed out compared to when she was a hatchling, always fussing when she didn’t get what she wanted, couldn’t understand something, or even when she didn’t know something, or even when she didn’t know how to communicate with someone about something. But when things got overwhelming even for her, back then, her mother would lull her to sleep with her love songs, even to this day, Mokele will have Gracie sing to her to sleep just for nostalgia. Like her father, Mokele can easily hide in the shadows due to her dark colors, which she takes advantage of by escaping from crowds to be alone as well as spying on dragons that interest her. Her wings may not be as dark as her father’s, but she’s still able to lurk in the shadows undetected…except for when her Violet Deepsea Bulb starts glowing when danger is nearby, or when a Mirror dragon spots her by her heat signature.

Mokele’s ways of coping with her issues these days are not only to to be alone, but to find a place where she can read a book (one of her favorites is about extinct creatures) or engage in stained glass art, both of which help her mind stay occupied and in the present. Mokele does, however, get irritated—and may even let out that irritation—when her moment of calm and quiet is interrupted, though she doesn’t mind too much when her temporary mate, Marble, arrives and spends time with her. Marble is an exception because he knows to be quiet and to not be too distracting.

Mating is a touchy subject for Mokele. As stated, Marble was Mokele’s temporary mate. Their mating was for the intention of raising enough Treasure to expand back when everyone (at the time) lived in the Everbloom Gardens. Mokele, with sheer hesitation, agreed to contribute and had twins with Marble. Her second temporary mate was with a Fae from another clan named Bloodwing with whom she had quadruplets. Her eldest of the quadruplets, Mokairum, turned out to be like Mokele herself in some ways, even to the point of crying because Mokairum didn’t understand what was going on when Mokele had to leave the Shadow Flight to come home. Mokele currently has a crush on a Coatl named Mu, who resides in the Fire Flight. Even though it’s a Sageglow Clan tradition for pairings who are married to have the exact same or similar kind of item to indicate their relationship, Mokele and Mu gave each other a single rose as gifts for their crush-like relationship. Mokele finds Mu’s innocence and personality to be adorable, and she even enjoys hearing his chirps. Some dragons think Mokele is interested in Mu, however, because he’s a Coatl, and everyone in the Sageglow Clan knows that she has an intense interest in Coatls—as well as Wildclaws. No one knows why she has a huge fascination for them, though some believe it’s because they’re the rarest breeds, or that their feathers remind her of her mother’s Rose Tail Feathers, but the truth is that there is no definitive answer on why Mokele is interested in Mu, the world may never know. She doesn’t always get to see Mu, so when she misses him—which is frequently—Mokele looks at her Blushing Pink Rose he gave her, and will even recall the day she received it and she caught a whiff of his scent on its stem.

Mokele has a wide variety of books…so many, in fact, that her father had to have her own library constructed. Mokele now works as the librarian in the Sageglow Library, and just like every librarian, she makes sure that everyone is quiet when they visit and that they return the books they borrow on time and that they’re in good condition…or else they’ll have to pay her in Treasure or Gems. She has her books arranged in specific ways, not only in the usual way with the books being organized by the names of the authors and placed in shelves by genre, but she even has the bookshelves alphabetized.

Along with her younger siblings of the first set of triplets, Graceful and Yorikiro, Mokele was given a pet dog, a Pomeranian whom she named YoYo (nobody knows why she gave him that name). She picked YoYo because of how soft and fluffy his fur is, and as everyone in the clan knows, if it's soft, then Mokele will love it. YoYo makes a good stress reliever for Mokele, petting him and letting him lick her helps calm her down, making him a great emotional support dog. During Mokele's alone time, YoYo lays next to her, allowing her to pet him when she wants or needs to. Like Mokele, YoYo loves socializing with her fellow dragon kin; he's often the conversation starter between Mokele and the dragons who notice them.

Mokele has a huge love for Familiars, so huge that when she becomes acquainted with one, she immediately becomes emotionally closer to them, possibly even starts caring for them like they’re her children. They all come and go, except for one.

Mokele was out in the fields one day, picking flowers for Greenskeeper Gathering, sometimes sneaking some sniffs to enjoy the aroma. At some point, Mokele noticed a rather odd flower. It was breezy a bit, but she could tell that this one flower in particular was moving in an abnormal way. She reached out to it and gently ran a claw against a petal before a green creature with large antlers popped up from the flowers and looked back at her. Mokele was startled at first, but quickly gained her composure when she got a better look at the creature only to recognize it (or her, rather) as a Sprouting Goblin. Mokele felt blessed to stumble upon such a rare creature. After sharing a very meaningful couple of hours together, Mokele had to go back home, which she did, only to find that the Sprouting Goblin followed her there. They both soon claimed each other as their own, leading to Mokele naming her Zinnia. Mokele is just about always seen with Zinnia by her side, she’s even seen in the library either sleeping, snuggling with Mokele as she (Mokele) reads, or even arranging books…albeit randomly. She still needs to practice with that but Mokele is at least patient with her about it.
