::The Past:: formation of the Carrion Canyon

During the First Age when the planet was showing the stress the War between the First Four had caused, many things were shifting and changing beyond godly activity. Sornieth’s land itself was unsettled and the environment was reacting to change. Once active volcanoes stirred by Flamecaller’s relentless battles with Earthshaker began to lay dormant, the vast lava tubes beneath Lýsu got disused, and left the land beneath hollow and empty, devoid of activity. The personal battle between Fire and Earth left a greater change- fragmented, Sornieth itself was now in smaller pieces, and these new plates remain shuddering from conflict and from the now irregular tilt the planet has. Great mountains were made and torn and sea water flooded what is now known as the Highland Scrub. Time came to pass, and Sornieth started to settle whilst the Eight slumbered. Earthquakes were now natural, as was volcanic activity, and the ice enveloping the southern hemisphere began to melt. Between tectonics clashing; the instability caused by the now hollow lava tubes; Stormcatcher's conquest of lands that dried out and made the scrub- the stress put upon this territory was too much. Something had to give. |

And it did. With one large shift in the plates, an earthquake not seen since the days of Earthshaker’s vengeance upon Flamecaller cataclysmically shook all, and, starting at the vast unused lava tubes of Lýsu, the earth split apart, revealing a scar upon the once fertile area- the Carrion Canyon. What life that was newly forming came to a halt, as land became unstable and the dust kicked out blanketed the surroundings, stopping early plant life from getting the vital sunlight. This dust would also come to affect the early developing mammals- plant life grew scarce from the lack of sunlight, and the same dust clogged the water sources and the vital systems of various life forms. The quake and collapse triggered shockwaves across the land- causing tsunamis to cover small island systems, and jump starting some volcanic activity- mainly that of the largest volcanoes whose magma chambers stretched wide. Spewing ash added to what was there and covered the sun causing a winter that lasted decades, and blanketing what land remain untouched within the radius of the blast. This volcanic winter caused great shifts in temperature and climate that contributed to most of the fledgling plant, marine and land based life to stutter and die. |
