B I O G R A P H Y
As the first Nature dragon in the clan, Renatus was an outcast in the beginning. But after a few weeks of enduring disease, fights, jeers and insults from the other dragons of the Clan, Renatus earned their grudging respect by not only surviving, but fighting back. He is very intelligent, but also has a bit of a superiority complex. He thinks himself better than most other dragons (especially Kugohl, his rival and the patriarch of the Mordraci clan). And though he doesn't say it aloud, it is blatant in the way that he dresses that he still stubbornly holds his birth element in high regard. (Maybe just to irritate Kugohl, who radiates Plague in every sense.) With Renatus' cunning comes a razor sharp wit that has, on occasion, been used to charm others (be it in a platonic or romantic sense). Some dragons have been fortunate enough to win Renatus' respect- the most controversial of which is Ivera, the clan matriarch. |
B I O G R A P H Y
Renatus and Ivera's relationship is a complicated one, with the power dynamic constantly shifting from one hand to the other. They definitely respect each other, and they have what could be called friendship. Back in the early days of the Mordraci clan, Ivera won Renatus' respect through her strength and her strategic, calculating mind. The Mirror herself was quite impressed with Renatus due to his own intelligence. Though Ivera was mated to Kugohl, and had been since the founding of the clan (Ivera was Kugohl's charge, no less), Renatus set his sights on courting Ivera. She, of course, knew exactly what he was doing the moment he started. Renatus, ever the chess master, had looked ahead and planned for this. Ivera couldn't help but enjoy the thrill of the game, and let Renatus pursue her right under Kugohl's nose. It eventually led to a coupling that culminated into two hatchlings. When the little ones hatched, Renatus and Ivera knew the game was up and confronted the scandal with heads held high. The rest of the clan was shocked but not surprised- everyone could see the fire when Ivera and Renatus interacted. Everyone but Kugohl. The clan patriarch was beside himself with rage, and in a rare turn of events immediately arranged for one of Ivera and Renatus' hatchlings to be sent to the Plaguebringer without even a name. Before the very same could happen to the second hatchling, Ivera stepped in (and even went so far as to claw him on his shoulder for sending one of her hatchlings away unnamed). She insisted that the second hatchling (who she named Akala) was to be raised in the Mordraci clan without judgement. And though Kugohl was reluctant, he eventually agreed. Even with Ivera's betrayal, he was still hopelessly in love with her and could not deny her. (Akala grew up under her mother's loving gaze and her father's watchful eye, while the patriarch of the clan practically ignored her. She even raised a clutch of hatchlings, before coming to understand that she never truly would be welcome. The next day, she left to go serve the Plaguebringer.) Kugohl and Renatus have had bad blood ever since, although it has lessened slightly over the years. Though Renatus and Ivera both openly discuss their still standing feelings for each other, they never act upon them. The two remain close associates. |

Quote:
we fell so fast that we barely had time to catch our breath
before it was snatched from our lungs as we hit the ground.
tightrope walking has never been in either of our bloods,
a shaky line with no end in sight. i asked if you wanted to play
this game with me and you said ‘yes’ with a spark in your eyes
that looked more like disease than lightning, but you still managed
to strike me. you’re still bubbling up under my skin, a blemish,
a beautiful disease that there is no cure for-- what for?
why cure something that only kills slowly, sparks rage in his eyes
every time he looks at me, like i was the one who made you
unholy. everyone knows that chess is a game for two,
and you’ve always been less of a pawn and more of a queen.
it’s not my fault that you helped me take down that king.
(checkmate, lovely.)
