Cinderlon Captain of the Aerie’s Vanguard Old Friend of the Khan |

Cinderlon, or Cinder as she is more commonly referred to, is highly respected amongst the members of the Aerie. She relates well to the people and listens seriously to their troubles. She then solves them either by herself or by speaking to Khan on their behalf. She is also a bit of a mystery. Even Zharis Khan doesn’t know half of her story and he’s been with her the longest. Once, Cinder was a friendless, orphan mercenary. Certainly, this part of the story is true as Cinder is feared for her prowess, a rival to the Aerie’s great Khan. But why she is so strong, or why she became a mercenary, is left to bards to conjure tales of, for Cinder won't tell. Only that she, too, was tired of war and joined Zharis’ conquest. Zharis is close to her because Cinder listens and thinks seriously on subjects. Her years of mercenary work have given her extensive knowledge of enemy strategies and she is well-known for using every possible advantage available to her. This includes weather, dragon breeds and the environment itself. If all else should fail, Cinder and Zharis know they have each other to rely on. Cinder admires Zharis for his leadership, for while she is well-liked, she simply does not have the charisma or talent for diplomacy he does. And she truly believes he can bring an end to this war and so she devotes her life in his service. Nothing will harm him before going through her, a terrifying prospect for most dragons. This includes Li Shao. While Zharis came to her before going through with the plan, Cinder is unsure of Li Shao and her brother Shan, particularly where her children are involved. Li Shao seems suspicious of them and Cinder isn't fond of that. However, Cinder has no wish to make the formidable empress her (or her childrens') enemy and attempts to maintain a truce of sorts. In the Aerie itself, Cinder is the captain of the Vanguards - a rank of dragons dedicated to the Aerie's defense. They frequently patrol the Aerie's borders and because of this, they are considered to be some of the best fliers in all the flights. In addition, the Vanguard serve as peacekeepers in the Aerie, sorting out disputes and intervening in squabbles and fights. Cinder's endless reserves of patience serve her well, as she not only has to deal with the Aerie but also the Vanguards' clashing personalities. Thankfully, Mesa - her closest friend other than Zharis - has her back. Cinder is well-loved within the Aerie. She constantly offers her assistance to any who need it and is essential to the running and stability of the Aerie's society. When not doing anything, which is rare, Cinder spends time with her children and does her best to make up for the time she lost. Often, Magnolia joins them and the four can be found training or simply talking. Cinder is dedicated – as a captain, adviser, friend, mother and member of the Aerie. She does all in her power to be certain that all are looked after. She can be a bit intimidating at times, for her hood and scarred eye and muzzle. She is also notoriously quiet, both in speech and in action. She is passionate about the Aerie’s cause and does not tolerate any sedition towards her Emperor. Still, she tries to be just and fair in her dealings, aware that any of her actions will reflect on Zharis and the Aerie. |
