Biography
Frigga (also known as Frigg, The Beloved) is the Norse goddess of love, marriage, and destiny. She is the wife of the powerful Norse god Odin, The All-Father.
A sky goddess, responsible for weaving the clouds (and therefore for sunshine and rain), she is also responsible for weaving the fates.
She is known as a 'seer', one who knows the future though she can never change it.
A loving mother, Frigga's ability to see into the future caused her great pain as she foresaw the death of her beloved son, Baldur.
Even though she knew that she could not change Baldur's destiny, she extracted a promise from all things that they would play no role in his death. Unfortunately, she overlooked one thing -- the mistletoe plant, which seemed too insignificant to approach.
When Loki discovered her oversight, he made an arrow out of the mistletoe plant. In a cruel trick, Loki placed the arrow in the hand of Baldur's brother Hodr, who was the blind God of darkness. Loki offered to guide Hodr's hand while teaching him to shoot.
Hodr, guided by Loki, shot the arrow directly into Baldur's heart. Frigga's tears of mourning were so numerous that the hapless plant that had caused his death took pity. From then on the mistletoe would bear milky white berries that were formed from her tears.
