Staar was a child of Light, devout and pious. He started the Legion with good intentions. He was going to fight for those who were weak - those who needed help fighting great evil. But they kept losing, they weren’t nearly as ruthless and bloodthirsty as their enemies, so they lost unable to and unwilling to do the same. They were taking great loses with each battle and in even greater numbers as soldiers defected after each loss.

Feeling trapped and still driven by his need to help, he went to seek power. He sought it in the only place he knew where there would be immediate results. He went to the Shade knowing what it would cost him, he would be the same if not worse than his enemies but he had to win. Heroes have to make sacrifices for the greater good and that was the lie he told himself when he first summoned it. It was also the lie he told himself the second time and the third time he summoned the Shade…after that he didn’t bother lying. Power was power…and he was strong, so much stronger than those around him so he didn’t need to excuse his actions any longer.

Sol has changed him however, softened the small general. He loves him more than anything and now all he strives for is to give him what he wants. Even the Shade he so depended on is slowly being weened from their tactics. But once tainted always tainted.
