Every breath is agony. You know your team has lost. Through the red haze of blood dripping down your skull into your eyes, you can see your fellow warriors writhing on the ground, or worse, laying far too still. You attempt to clear your vision by blinking a few times, but the blood hasn't stopped flowing yet. Just as you are about to muster the strength to raise your forelimb to clear your eyes, a shadow falls over you. You freeze, an involuntary shudder driving another raspy breath from your lungs.

It's hard to make out what kind of dragon you are looking at. The creature has a large skull over their own face, roses woven through their mane with small golden beads strung about their figure. You hear the smaller bird and rodent skulls knocking together as the creature adjusts their wings. Then you see the pearl. Ahh, you think. It's a pearlcatcher. For a moment, you are hopeful. Perhaps the dragon is here to assist you? Heal you? Words are on your tongue when you make contact with the dragon's eyes.

And you see no mercy. No sympathy. No pity. The crimson orbs are losing their blood lust, certainly, but still retain the heat of the battle. This dragon is not here to save you. You close your eyes and mutter a prayer to your deity, hoping they are listening, that they recognize the service you have provided in your exaltation. No answer comes, save the pearlcatcher finishing the job quickly. Your eyes do not open again.
