Born in the Frozen reaches of the Southern Icefield, the tiny Coatl didn't originally realize that he was different from his Northern brethren due to the muted and dull colours of his fur and feathers. Over the generations his family had grown to adapt themselves for the perpetual winter and serving of the Icewarden. Inflicted with the curse of gembond, the tiny Coatl found himself struggling to find his place among his clan that preferred the ancient stretches of ice. Though he didn't originally realize it, the child had been blessed by the gods. Visions of things that would come to pass often flickered in front of his snow-blinded eyes. It was in this way that he saw his own travels away from his home nearly fully grown towards a more moderate climate that would be easier on his gem-encrusted body.
The curse of his sight was that he had no way of telling how long it would be before the things he saw would come to pass. It was in one day that this child nearly grown would leave his family after a realization he held no affinity towards the Icewarden or his clan in general. Though he could barely see, he started out, drawn northward towards the promise of temperate climates. Weeks later he would emerge into the lush fields of the Windswept Plateau, but his journey wouldn't end there. He continued, drawn towards a clan of storytellers and minstrels along the edge of the territory. It was with careful consideration that the clan allowed him to stay after the first night. In time others grew used to his gift, offering him gentle guidance when it's necessary to move the clan around their sizable lands. Though his name was lost within the Ice, the young Coatl chose the name Garwode, enchanted by the few trees of the wind lands that lined the coast and the area the clan had chosen. He's slowly gained training with his gift, and the elders of the clan heed his warnings, taking care when he mentions some kind of misfortune. Though he remains stiff, he finds solace in his mate, a gentle Coatl of similar colouring and the same gembond infection who spends most of her days surrounded by papers by his side.
