yet not for long
Haze drew in a ragged breath from what felt like ages of listlessness; thoughts trickled through a once quiet mind like rivulets of water through a barren tundra. "it's time, it's time! get up get up!" He could feel the stirring of movement around him, quiet, slow; yet quickening every moment. "Me first! No me!" More thoughts crept through jogging his memory. He had fallen asleep before winters chill set in, curling up next to his favorite flower bed in hopes of seeing their new blooms when the first rays of spring warmed the earth.
Eyes like withered leaves snapped open glaring up through grassy constrains, he was to be the first! Haze wriggled against the blades; claws dug into the earth, tail lashing, withered leaf like wings straining, chest heaving, eyes squeezed shut, every effort made stronger as life filtered back into his limbs. Akin to the very buds around him he struggle till his bonds grew weak, till one last valiant; full throttle break for the sky tore the grassy bonds from his body.
Shooting into the air, he snapped his wings open at the peek of assent; his tail flipped up behind him almost catching himself in the back at the sudden stop. A moment later he opened his once closed eyes; now glowing a bright orange yellow, taking a deep breath in he stretched. Feeling every muscle as he did so, with each beat of his wings his feathers bloomed with color; first from the base near his body, then flourishing outwards with color akin to Haze's eyes. Like a flower unfurling its petals or a butterfly filling its newly formed wings. When all was said and done he was quite a different creature from before, once drab now vibrant, just like the flowers his bright eyes layed upon.
His and their struggle was the same, as the buddings pushed up through the soil seeking the sun, he smiled "You can do it, i believe in you" almost as if understanding they reached further towards the sun unfurling their petals, with colors as numerous as those found in a rainbow, they grew. Fed upon the magic infused earth Haze watched as they bloomed, their color more vibrant then anything he had seen in his long long life.
A sigh of relief escaped him as the last flower bloomed; something still restricted him slightly, lifting a fore-arm up he gazed upon tenacious blades of grass clinging to his body, a reminder of the struggle that had taken place just moments before. He smiled a light tender smile patting the grass, even now he wears it as a badge of honor showing his struggle, the struggle of all things when the new seasons decides to warm the the earth speaking sweet melodies of life and glorious promises of spring.
