Biography
Immature hatchlings could be seen floating within the contents of several pulsating, sickeningly green eggs. Their forms were all the more easy to see, thanks to the electricity coursing along the surface of an egg that looked sorely out of place amongst the clutch of unhatched eggs. But the young dragons inside were unaware of their unusual situation, and the adults guarding the nest took no notice. Neither would the Plaguebringer. In his service, a dragon was a dragon, no matter the element. Though the dragons of this particular clan prided themselves on sending their deity well trained Plaguelings like themselves, when an unhatched egg turned up in the claws of their most skilled thief, they welcomed it was one of their own. When the eggs broke open and the young hatchlings had grown sufficiently large and strong, each dragon began a rigorous training program. Not only were their physical strengths pushed to the limits, but the myriad diseases of the Scarred Wasteland assaulted their immune systems mercilessly. Naturally, the rightful offspring excelled in all areas, thriving in their element and reveling in the infections that seemed to last no longer than an ordinary cold. And yet the young dragon of Lightning origins suffered. Try though he might he could not keep up with the dragons he believed to be his nest-mates. Before the plague took hold, his body was strong and full of promise. But the more ill he became, the worse he fared. Not only was his physique suffering, but the elder dragons who trained him were beginning to lose their patience. Though at first their frustrations were taken out on the thief who had been foolish enough to pilfer an egg from a nest outside the Scarred Wasteland, they soon began to lash out at their pupil. As he knew no differently, the young Guardian accepted the punishment, wondering to himself what was wrong with his body. Crest arrives and rescues Shiq just in time (before being exalted or worse?). The two travel to the Shifting Expanse in search of Shiq's parents. Without any leads or idea of where to begin - and the Search nagging at the back of his mind, the pair instead devoted their time to searching for Shiq's Charge. Crest found his Charge in Shiq, and as a fellow Guardian educated his young companion on their breed. When they left the Shifting Expanse for a brief time, Shiq knew they had gone wrong, and they returned shortly afterward. In time Shiq discovers that his charge is his identity, which he feels was stolen from him. As he works to rebuild his identity, all things that become a crucial part of his identity become a part of his charge. Though he could not have known it, Crest was to become the first tangible being he would take charge of. The pair made their home in the Shifting Expanse, welcoming several other dragons into their lair. As their den grew, so too did Shiq's feeling of responsibility towards it. To this day, he wears a helm and cowl in order to hide his face from others. Only a handful of his den-mates know what he looks like beneath their cover. Though he won't admit it to anyone but himself, his days spent in the Scarred Wasteland still haunt him, and fear grips him at the thought of encountering his old captors, and so to protect himself, he keeps himself hidden so that none who look upon him might recognize him from their past. Though openly allied with clans of the Fire and Ice flights, Shiq has made it a point to remain on neutral terms with the rest of the flights of Sornieth. Though he finds it difficult to do so, he maintains friendlier relations with clans heralding from the Plaguebringers domain. Despite his personal feelings, both he and Crest agreed: keep your friends close, and your enemies closer. As their clan steadily grows, Shiq invariably takes on each member as a Charge to varying degrees. The longer they remain with the clan, and the stronger their relationship grows, the more bound he feels to them. As something of an orphan himself, Shiq readily welcomes orphaned dragons into the clan, allowing them to stay as long as they please. Many have made their homes within the clan, likely due to the kinship they feel with Shiq. Though his main devotions are now to his clan and it's lair, Shiq still harbors a great desire to uncover more of his history, more of his identity, but he has yet to find his parents or his birth clan. When the Wanderer arrived on the edges of the lair's boundaries and he was told the rumors about her, Shiq's blood boiled in silence within him. As Crest has always been in-tune with Shiq's emotions, he knew immediately the danger that the ridgeback posed. And yet before he could force her away, Shiq relented and allowed her to stay. It was only later that he discovered Shiq hoped to learn more about his own past from the Wanderer. Though he was ages older than she, he hoped to find answers in her strange ways. Though he held immense distaste for her practice, he knew this might be the best chance at discovering even a weak link to his past... |
