Inside every sane person there's a madman struggling to get out," said the shopkeeper. "That's what I've always thought. No one goes mad quicker than a totally sane person.”

'Appearances can be deceiving' is a pretty common saying among dragons of Mithril's original clan. And while it's a very sensible and sage lesson for any young dragon to learn, it's also important to keep in mind that sometimes things tend to be exactly what they look like. Mithril is one of them. Even as a young dragon he loved playing pranks, telling jokes and puns (he specialized in particularly bad ones). This did not exactly sit well with his parents who needed to keep their reputation as upstanding citizens and thus hired many a teacher to bring some good old-fashioned common sense into their son's highly impact resistant head. This resulted in him gaining a broad education and with it even more topics to make fun of, which wasn't exactly what his parents intended, but as they truly did everything in their might to protect the world from bad puns no one can't really blame them for their failure (it'd be like blaming them for a freak storm, Mithril's comedic outbursts are a force of nature in their own way). And so, when the time came to depart on his Search, he bode his parents farewell (there might have been tears involved, not that his normally gruff and stoic father would ever admit it) and ventured forth into the unknown. After much wandering around and accidentally returning home on one occasion (much to the amusement of his old clanmates), he finally found his charge in the form of young Pearlcatcher Asha who, if you ever ask her, was minding her own business and just enjoying a lively conversation with a smallish group of somewhat hungry looking Mirrors (seriously, when do those things ever not look ravenous?), thank you very much. After settling the... argument the two continued traveling together - not that there was much choice on Asha's part as Mithril insisted on sticking to her like she was covered in honey and he were a particularly annoying bee that happened to make some spectacularly bad puns on special occasions. Despite their initial bumpy start, once the two got to know each other, love blossomed and they decided to settle down and found a clan of their own. Among their children, many inherited Mithril's special sense of humor, so everyone can rest easy in knowing horrible puns won't be going out of style for a good long while! |
