Gemwing

Gemwing came from a large, traveling Clan of Mirror whose greatest pride was not their tie to the Earthshaker, but their ability to hunt in the sparse and difficult territories of Dragonhome.

Almost from the moment he hatched, Gemwing was trained to fight and hunt, to cooperate with his pack-mates, and to bring down prey quickly and mercifully. While they were ravenous hunters, devouring anything that would fall beneath them, the Clan leader did not take joy in the suffering of their kills. Gemwing would watch as their hunts ended in "gentle slaughter", and then the pack would gather around to hum and sing -- a ritual that sent the spirits of their prey onwards into the lifestream.

When he was old enough, he became the leader of one of the hunting packs. He was good at it, very adept at tracking and felling. His second-in-command was older than him, and didn't believe that he should be the second. He challenged Gemwing for the spot, and Gemwing threw the match, not wanting to hurt someone he'd considered his friend. The other Mirror was overly prideful about it, rubbing it in Gemwing's face at every opportunity. Eventually the jabs and insults became too much.

The fight was a brutal one, but Gemwing won, as he would have in the first fight had he actually tried. He left the other alive, but went to the Clan leader and told her that he could no longer stay. He felt terrible about the violence and could feel the way that his Clan members looked at him differently. So he left his traveling Clan and wandered through Dragonhome.

He ended up near the Pillar of the World, which is where he met Flutter. He'd never felt for any dragon the way he felt for her, but he was still shocked when she decided to run away with him. He guards their lair in the Shattered Plain, guards his mate and children.
