There is no grace, nor beauty to be found in the silent, dusty corridors of the Abbey. There are no gentle whispers, no wanton lovers, and no respite from the eyes of God. In these places, lie only filth, long forgotten cruelties, and a drab little woman of no import.

i. THE DAUGHTER OF A HERETIC

This child of a faithless cur is marked for all her days, and the sins of the father will be penned across her grave. She will spend her nights in woeful penance, praying to the Most High for a mercy that will never come. Through each pang of regret, she will labor without fail, in the service of those that her blood sought to wrong.

ii. SHE WILL PAY FOR HIS SIN

To suffer in silence is the greatest atonement that a woman can offer up to God. A feminine voice is at the center of immorality, and by such a sacrifice, a woman might purify her soul. Her voice belongs to God, and only one whose life revolves around the service of the Most High may hear its dulcet tones.

iii. HER LIFE IS NOT HER OWN

A woman, and a child, no more than a few years in age, she lives at the sufferance of the Church. Her clothes, her thread, her needle, all bought by those who would see her talents used in the name of God. Just as her voice is not her own to use, so too are her skills parceled up, and bled out in service of those who keep her fed.
