개나리 Forsythia

산에 핀 개나리는 혼자 태어났다. 개나리 아이. 동물들은, 나무들은 그를 이렇게 불렀다.
작고 어렸을 때도 그랬지만 훌쩍 커버린 지금은 동물에게는 (또는 풀, 나무에) 재앙같은 풀잎색의 꼬리를 살랑이며 덩굴무덤에서 잠들고, 꽃밭에서 뒹굴고, 개울에서 먹을 것을 찾았다. 개나리는 산에서 살지만 지워진 책임이 없어 자유로웠다.
모든 나무에겐 짝이 있단다. 이 산은 아니지만 네게도 있겠지. 산에서 제일 늙은 사슴은 그렇게 말했다.
오늘도 으레 하는 헛소리인가 생각하며 웃는 용을 사슴이 냅다 발로 찼다. 흘려듣지마라! 맞을 자리를 아픈척하며 설설 기는 개나리의 날개에서 꽃비가 떨어졌다. 사슴과 용은 그렇게 한참동안 놀이를 계속했다. 놀이가 끝다고 몇일, 몇달이 지날 때까지 개나리는 그 말에 마음을 두지않았다. 오히려 까먹었다는 말이 맞을까. 우연히 날아온 떡갈나무 잎을 따라, 숲에 도달하기 전까지는.
아, 이건 사랑이야. 그렇게 개나리는 으레 다 큰 아이가 집을 떠나듯 산을 떠났다.
날갯짓에 이는 바람에 늙은 사슴이 웃었다. 그놈 그것보라지!
