Biography
⚔ M A R O U X ⚔
Traveler | Clan Advisor | Elite Spy | Botanist
Maroux was a traveler, always had been and always will be. He’s never had anything to pin him down permanently - not even his parents, who he learned his wandering ways from. Maroux is a knowledge seeker; he does alchemy and likes to read from faraway libraries, encountering many strange dragons who impart various pieces of wisdom. He’s read the obelisks in Cairnstone Rest, learning the history of the Earth flight; he’s studied under a famous botanist in Wispwillow Grove, learning all about the magical properties of fungi. Since then, he’s kept a journal full of notes and a basket of the useful plants he’s encountered on his journeys. Maroux's met disciples of the Icewarden, Beastclan shamans, dragons of every trade. Each of them opened his eyes to something new, whether it be a frosty spell or a mentality of survival. His travels taught him to rely on himself, the only dragon who he could ever truly hold accountable for anything that came to him.
Once, when returning to the Shadow flight, Maroux encountered another, younger wildclaw, Hrothdel; he was fascinated with Hrothdel’s visions, his morbid perspective of the world. Hrothdel told him the gods had no true power, that these dragon gods were only called “gods” for arriving first on the land. Maroux knew he could learn so much from Hrothdel - perhaps the secrets of the “gods” could make him stronger. Maroux made his (semi) permanent home with Hrothdel, who did not care whether or not Maroux stayed with him. Maroux felt indebted to Hrothdel, and he vowed to assist him with the knowledge he had gathered and the knowledge that he would gather in the future. “Travel brings wisdom only to the wise. It renders the ignorant more ignorant than ever.” |

“What are you trying to do?” Maroux asked, lost among all the runic stones and chalked-up circles that Hrothdel had drawn, somehow, through his blindness. He recognized a few symbols, mostly ones Hrothdel had described from his visions, but many of the others were completely foreign. Even so, he could feel their power reverberating in his skull, whispering his name and inciting a peculiar sense of dread that sat low and uncomfortable in his stomach. “I’m casting a curse on bad luck to bring the clan fortune,” Hrothdel answered, matter-of-fact. “That’s a double negative.” Hrothdel paused his drawing. “My spells don’t work the way normal dragons’ do. I can only cast curses, so… this is the workaround.” Maroux wasn’t sure what to make of that. He’d only been living with Hrothdel for a couple weeks, and seeing Hrothdel perform such a complex incantation for the first time was definitely new. Sitting down now, watching, Maroux hoped that Hrothdel would share more of his process for spell creation. He’d only started to live with Hrothdel for his unearthly wisdom; this would be the first chance to experience it up close, however disconcerting it was. “The fake gods are always pleased in their sick, wicked, perverse way when I invoke them,” Hrothdel explained, outwardly expressionless (but Maroux could see his eye twitch - was that fear? Anger? He couldn’t tell). “But the clan leader has asked this of me, and I will not refuse.” |
